    2025 NHL Draft thread

That's a good question. Others ranked him fairly high too (Sportsnet at 62 and McKeens at 72). He's still not really a Leaf right now but maybe if he signs someone can dig into that some more.

Believe they have until he reports to his junior team to sign him.

    2025 NHL Draft thread

Not a draft pick but Owen Conrad was considered by many one of the best undrafted prospects this year. He's an 18-year old defenceman from the QMJHL and you will not be shocked to learn that he's tall (6'3") and big (213 lbs). From The Daily Faceoff: The Athletic had him ranked 43rd in Corey...

Knies extended [6 years, $7.75mil AAV]

I think Domi's at market. Again I've talked about him not being a great fit here but that's not really for cap reasons. He just doesn't really have anywhere to hide here like he would on other teams. OEL I'd say is market at best right now. I mean soon to be 34-year old 3rd pairing guy at...

Well come on it's their last chance to abuse the LTIR rule.

Knies extended [6 years, $7.75mil AAV]

Seems fine. Figured it'd be closer to $8mil after the Peterka contract. Was hoping it'd be closer to $7mil before that contract though. At least it's not a short deal though.

This does seem like a fun "story".

    2025 Offseason Thread: Spring Cleaning

I wonder if the new rules in the CBA, particularly the limits on signing bonuses, made Marner re-think his plans to go short/medium-term right now. Get that 8-year, probably very heavily signing bonus driven, deal in now while he still can.

Yeah I could see Benoit going the other way.

Getting either of these guys would be a pretty big success all things considered right now. Both would be nuts. We'll see where it all goes.

John Tavares is still a Maple Leaf [4 years, $4.38mil AAV]

Hah, not gonna lie I wondered if LA might move him for offensive help with Kopitar still kicking and Byfield starting to look more and more like the real deal.

John Tavares is still a Maple Leaf [4 years, $4.38mil AAV]

I dunno this all assumes that this means there's something that Max Domi, the same one whose career high in assists is 44, was able to do something to get Matthews' personal shooting percentage and on-ice shooting percentage to hit rates that he's never had over the course of a full season...

    2025-26 General Trades & Signings

Right now? Probably doesn't make sense. If Rielly was somehow dealt and we opened up $7.5mil in cap space? I'd probably be down.

John Tavares is still a Maple Leaf [4 years, $4.38mil AAV]

Very small sample size for Domi vs. a very large sample size with Marner is pretty relevant. Matthews and Domi had one great 14-game hot streak together at the end of last season. I don't think we should make too much generalizations from it though. He also scored at an absurd rate when Holmberg...

    2025-26 General Trades & Signings

Ya the price doesn't seem that crazy but with Hutson already there you'd think they would have used those picks and cap space on something else. Still having one of those two on the ice at almost all times is gonna make moving the puck up the ice a breeze for them. How the PP minutes shake out...

John Tavares is still a Maple Leaf [4 years, $4.38mil AAV]

Yeah aside from penalties this was my biggest gripe about his play during playoffs. He REALLY needs to get that coached out of his game.

John Tavares is still a Maple Leaf [4 years, $4.38mil AAV]

Laughton was 8th among forwards in 5-on-5 ice time during the playoffs, and 6th in all situations. He was a 4C on paper then only, and I have a hard time imaging the Leafs pencil him in there to start the season. Anything's possible though, it'll really depend on what other moves are made during...

John Tavares is still a Maple Leaf [4 years, $4.38mil AAV]

His contract was front loaded so that's a plus. He's due a $2.5mil signing bonus presumably on July 1st. Once that's paid out he'll be owed $1.5mil for this upcoming season and $3mil in each of the next two. With the rising cap those salaries and a $3.75mil AAV don't seem that crazy for a likely...

John Tavares is still a Maple Leaf [4 years, $4.38mil AAV]

I give Domi a lot of props for the way he played in playoffs. Obviously some dumb penalties but one of the few players to step up offensively. Still though, he's such an odd fit in the line-up. I don't think he should be on the top line, I don't think he should play with Nylander, I don't think...
