2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Lines from practices will be out soon enough but certainly seems like Domi's injury will give Maccelli the early look on the top line.

I think that's certainly true but his size not matching what you'd normally expect from an offensive defenceman has been a thing basically his entire career. He was 225 in the season before Berube too, and it looks like this will be the first time he's under 220 since the 2018 camp. Being 219...

I got carried away with playing with filters so these were all the defencemen last year to be 6'2" or below and 220 lbs or above (Rielly was listed at 6'1", 225 lbs): Rielly, Ian Cole, Luke Schenn, David Savard, Ryan Pulock, Alexander Romanov, Jack Johnson, and Ryan Shea. Certainly an odd group...

2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Rielly always seemed a little oddly big for an offensive defenceman who isn't particularly physical. Last season 30 defencemen scored 40 or more points. He was the 4th "heaviest" one at 225 while the top-3 had 5-6 inches on him (Hedman, Hamilton, Power). 20 of those 30 defencemen were 210 or...

Villeneuve put on almost 10 lbs since last season, almost 20 lbs since he was drafted now. Not exactly expecting much from him in what is a pretty big make or break season, but having more of a NHL body won't hurt.

The NCAA has some restrictions and whatnot around that, so those players rarely if ever attend training camps.

Doesn't seem to be much, if anything, out there regarding how Owen Conrad's looked at the earlier development camp and over this past weekend (he only played in game 2). He was one of the guys I was most curious about after being considered one of the top undrafted players from this year. I...

I get what you're saying but I doubt Kressler or Barbolini even start on the Marlies.

It's a bit of a throwaway line but interesting to see McGran say that "the door is not closed there" in regards to Pacioretty coming back. At his age he's certainly not someone who should be playing 82, or 72, or even 62 games a season but after his playoff run I hoped he would return in a 4th...

There it is. Obviously can't really find anything to complain about that from the Leafs side. Even if Hildeby doesn't turn into a NHL option, which is certainly possible, the deal is fine. Really unsure what the benefit is here for Hildeby though. Especially as opposed to just accepting his...

Wonder what the hold up on his contract is. There's not exactly a reason to panic when a RFA isn't signed even at this point but you'd think this would be a fairly simple deal.

    Armchair GM Thread 2025/26

Also the only reason this is even a somewhat plausible scenario is because it's so widely assumed that Hughes will be joining his brothers in New Jersey eventually that even Vancouver's front office has openly commented on it. We're talking about a 25-year old with back to back Norris...

    Armchair GM Thread 2025/26

I'd say he's a little better yeah. Not that this is definitive or anything but if you go and look over the past 5-10 years virtually all "top NHL defencemen" rankings would have Hamilton ahead of Rielly, sometimes by a lot. With that said his injury concerns, being a year older, and having a...

    Armchair GM Thread 2025/26

Vancouver would need to get much, much more for Hughes but an interesting fantasy idea for sure. Rielly goes home, Hamilton goes home, Hughes goes to his new home with his brothers.

His AHL reviews weren't very positive this past season. Maybe he takes a bigger leap in year 2 but I'm not holding my breath.

Nice little mid-August read here. The more I think about it the more convinced I am that we'll see Domi on the top line and McMann on the second line. Both trios had very good success in limited minutes last season. That leaves Maccelli-Roy-Joshua, which closely resembles the...

Surprised to see SDA still even cracking the list. His two seasons in the KHL don't look like something that would warrant a NHL return. I'd say Niemela has a better chance at resurrecting any value here if he can have a big season in Europe.

Not often a 5th round draft pick from the most recent draft cracks this list I think. Because of the lack of prospects here right now and because of his size/playstyle I totally get why he'd be ranked at around this spot right now though. Still would have put Valis ahead of him.
