Ok, I'll rephrase. Every single coach in the NHL will tell their team to continue to try to play their best and score additional goals with a one goal lead.

There isn't a coach in the NHL who would tell his team to just sit around and play passively with a one goal lead.

Am I crazy or does it seem like modern linesmen are just getting worse and worse at avoiding the play?

I feel like those things tend to even out though. I'm really more interested in what it says about how the Leafs play without the puck then trying to find some sort of meaning in a small sample size of unevenly distributed calls.

None of these penalties have been egregious but it's pretty hard to argue with any of them. Why the Leafs keep trying to defend with their sticks like this is pretty sloppy.

There has to be a difference between tripping and falling down over another player.

He didn't really get him from behind though and I think that's generally the criteria used.

I'm not sure why Marincin is escaping blame on that goal. Feels like that's a sort of spot that a defenseman should be guarding in the event Matthews loses his man.

I would genuinely like to know what the Leafs stats are in terms of giving up goals in the first five minutes vs. other teams. I'm very open to the possibility that they're nothing special in that regards but it sure seems like they do it a lot.

That's fair. But I'd also wonder if maybe you don't want to get Boston too familiar with the guy they might have to play in the playoffs. Maybe me saying that it makes no difference is wrong but I don't think it's worth any hand wringing either way.

Let's be real, trying to shame a guy for working an honest job is pretty grotesque even before the racism.

Well, I don't know anything about this guy specifically but hopefully the Leafs hit on enough of these guys that they can create some cap room by making Kerfoot, Johnsson or Kapanen expendable.

Honestly if the team's ability to win with Hutchinson in net is as negatively affected as people suggest then I'm really not sure that starting him in one game vs. the other really changes how many points the Leafs should expect.

I watched the new Soderbergh movie The Laundromat on Netflix yesterday and I'd recommend it highly. Excellent cast(Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman, Antonio Banderas) and engrossing subject matter(The Panama Papers). Very much the sort of movie that people complain doesn't get made any more.

Just about any team with a clear cut #1 is boned if their starter gets hurt. A million or so here or there isn't the difference between Hutchinson and someone who'd be a capable #1B. I really don't get why so much of the focus here is on the cap situation as opposed to the team's lousy...
