2012/2013 NHL Injury Thread

Maybe a titch too soon to roll out this thread given the labour uncertainty but it looks as if there is potential for Rene Bourque to miss a chunk of time (maybe a month or so if the season starts on schedule.)

@jkreiser77nhl
#Flyers say Scott Hartnell is out indefinitely with a left foot injury. http://flyers.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=64095 ?

TSNBobMcKenzie: Fears are COL winger Steve Downie's knee injury is ACL, could mean end of his season. Avs say still assessing extent. Doesn't sound good.

Man, all of these really likable players going down with injuries. What up with dat?

TSNBobMcKenzie: FLA's Stephen Weiss is shut down for the rest of the year, will require surgery for an ongoing wrist problem.

TSNBobMcKenzie: FLA can't catch a break lately. If healthy, Weiss would've been major trade deadline (rental) chip to play. Now he's gone to UFA in July.

TSNBobMcKenzie: Can't blame Weiss for shutting it down. Wrist has really limited him. Needs to be healthy by summer to get a new contract in UFA.

Ouch.

Add to that this:

Steve Goldstein @goldieonice 33s
Theodore, Kulikov, Weaver all out at least a month. Jovo, upshall at least 10 days away. Versteeg day to day

Makes complete sense why he was having an extremely poor season offensively.  Not the way he wants to end off leading into UFA.

They're well on their way to a top pick in the draft...yikes...

If we can't snag Getzlaf, Weiss might be a nice catch this summer.

I really like Weiss and would like to see him as a Leaf, and I'm sure he'd relish the opportunity playing in his home town, but tying up at least $10.5M (I can't see how Weiss gets less than $5M) in Weiss and Grabovski doesn't seem like the wisest use of money.

And really, would he bring all that much more than Bozak does?

He does, but, probably not enough to justify what will likely be the difference in salary between them.

Is he even an upgrade on Grabovski?  Their offensive stats in recent seasons are very similar, Weiss has done it in more ice time, and Grabovski is younger.
