sounds like a failure by trying to draft the french canadian kid in hopes that would excel his play

The draft was in Montreal that year, too, so there was that little bit of extra pressure to take the local kid who was ranked around near where they drafted. A couple pretty good players went shortly after him. He's just another example of why going with the local kid and making moves to appease the fans are generally poor strategies.

I liked what he was doing for Montreal...and 1M/year?  He was good for them in the playoffs.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: EDM acquires negotiating rights to pending UFA D Nikita Nikitin from CBJ.

TSNBobMcKenzie: Clarification: EDM has window in which it's permissible to negotiate with CBJ pending UFA Nikita Nikitin, but no trade has yet been made.

The Devils re-signed Cam Janssen, for some reason.

Well, he did double his career goal total last season, so, clearly, he's evolving as a player.

He is without a doubt a hockey player.

He received the standard 2-year extension for enforcers right?

1 year, 2-way deal for $575,000.  Apparently you can do that.

It's also less than either Orr or McLaren got and he outscored both combined last season.  In 24 games.  Orr/McLaren played 81 games.

He has been signed to 5 successive 1-year deals ranging in value from $525,000 to $600,000.  Both Orr/McLaren received higher from the Leafs.

Seriously.  What the hell.

You honestly think Orr didn't deserve a two-year contract?
What more does he need to do to convince you?

He's intangible.  He hits stuff.  He fights everything that mutually agrees to fight him back.  He won a puck battle.  He shoots.  He has the puck on his stick.  He moves his legs to propel himself up the ice.

53GP 0G 0A  +  7GP 0G 0A  +  22GP 0G 0A  =  82GP 0G 0A
98 straight games without a goal

I think you should update that sig with those numbers!

Basically any warm bodies on the 4th line will likely be an improvement over Orr/FML.

Did the NHL not institute a change in the free agency date last year to July 5th so free agency would not coincide with the Canadian and U.S. holidays?  This year it's back to July 1st.

They pushed it back last year because the lockout made the season end a little later than usual.
