2016 Arbitration

Justin Smoak avoided arbitration and signed a 1-year 3.9M contract.  His projected arbitration number was rated at 2.0M.

Josh Thole was non-tendered and is a UFA.

Everyone else was tendered an offer including both Saunders and Revere.

I mean 800k is better than 2M but having Thole around for 30-40 games is not amusing.  He really should only be exclusively catching Dickey and getting pulled the second Dickey leaves a game.  The problem is I'm not convinced that forcing Martin to carry the load of 120-130 games is a good idea.  I know the Jays are paying a premium for him but that wear is going to work against the team.

I really don't like the trend the team is taking.

Well that was a fun 3 months I suppose... back to the same old I guess.

I know it's too early to tell what's really going to happen, but I feel a tear down a rebuild coming up. Encarnacion and Bautista are going to be gone and I can see trading Donaldson and Tulowitzki on the horizon.

I just have a sinking feeling about this season. Raiding the Indians for management just strikes me as strange.

I don't think it's likely that Thole is the #2 catcher.

But what are you basing your feeling on?  There's absolutely nothing suggesting that as of right now.

I was thinking the same thing. He certainly wasn't signed to a contract that's big enough that it guarantees him a spot on the MLB roster. That's a depth signing.

Honesty,  it's baseless irrational fear. I'm aware.

I surely hope not, but with Shapiro and Ross guy at the helm, who knows just where this Blue Jays team will end up.  Anything can happen for better or for worse.
