Accident

My daughter Sarah bought a 2014 Corolla in November.  Her boyfriend totalled it last week.  Sarah and I were in the car with him.  Some twit pulled in front of us and slammed on his brakes. All airbags went off, etc etc.

I'm in Parry Sound at the cottage until Tuesday morning. She's pretty nervous out shopping for a new car - She's a little nervous being a 20 yr old kid buying another new car...

Poor kid!

Glad you are all okay Rick.

To be honest, the first thing that crossed my mind was whether this driver did this intentionally for an insurance scam.

That happened to my cousin over here. The police said they knew it wasn't his fault but they couldn't prove it so he got stung on his insurance as they claimed for injury.

I'm glad everyone was ok and hopefully it's not a scam Rick.

I had quite a bug shunt a couple of years back where a guy decided to do a U Turn across the road right in front of me and I hit him at about 50mph. Again nobody was hurt, including his 1 year old child, but both cars were totalled and it was a thoroughly surreal experience

A tip for you Rick. two years ago my then 20 year old, was hit by a city pickup, she had major injurys, but has recovered. they say if she was a big girl (shes 100lbs soaking wet) she would be dead. my advice is talk her into a small suv, I did with my girl, we both now have a piece of mind.

Rick, I'm sorry to hear that. Also glad to hear that everyone is ok. Vehicles can be replaced, lives can't. Big hugs to you all.

I tried talking her into an SUV - no luck.

We got her a mid-size.  A new Chrysler 200.  It felt safer to drive, if that makes sense.  It's loaded, leather seats, mirror warmers, backup, all kinds of stuff.  And we got her an extended warranty.

Good choice. Whatever makes you and her feel safe.

Whe I first got my license I totaled our Ford station wagon three days on my learner's permit. Nobody hurt but I was really upset. My dad just looked at me and said, "We can always get another car. We can't get another you."

An Italian K-car build on a Japanese platform.  I test drove one, thought it handled like a little Buick.  Hate 'soft and floaty' suspensions, but for some, they'll like the 'comfort'.

Rented one a few months back after wifey was in a fender bender.  Definately agree that the steering was way to light and floaty.  Acceleration a bit delayed.  Sight lines were also sub-optimal for looking back at the driver side blind spot.  It was however, the perfect size for her, slightly larger than a corolla, but smaller than a camry.
