Anaheim fires Bruce Boudreau

I mean it's interesting.  There were calls to fire him early in the year and then they went on a crazy run to become one of the top teams in the West.  Then his team played well but ultimately choked in another Game 7.

Maybe his style of coaching just isn't conducive to winning in the postseason, and if that is the case it makes sense to not keep him around as your coach if you are outside of a rebuilding period.

I mean it's understandable, but I still feel he got at least a little bit of a raw deal.

Another coach biting the bullet for a GM who assembled an aging top heavy team.

Ottawa's next coach?

It'd be great for Ottawa, but I don't see it. First, he's going to be able to demand a lot of money and they'll still be paying Cameron and his coaching staff. Second, I just don't see why he would join them. People always say that there's only 30 job openings for coaches so they can't be picky but someone like Boudreau can be. Even if he doesn't find a job this offseason he can wait for someone else to get fired and enjoy some time off.

There's also an opening in Minnesota. And maybe other teams reconsider their plans with Bruce available.

Not terribly surprising. You don't necessarily need top flight results to keep your job but I do think you at least need a sense of forward momentum and it's pretty tough to see that in Anaheim.

It's a pretty classic case of it being easier to fire the coach than move the players, especially with some of the contracts in place in Anaheim.

I wonder if Carlyle is back behind the bench next season.
