Are we ALL ready for some Leafs hockey?

When this season begins I'm wondering what kind of shape this Leafs team will be in. Of course, an advantage must be given to the guys who have either played overseas, or in the CHL or AHL. Will the Leafs be ready? Improved? Will a shortened season be a benefit or a handicap? So many questions....

Perhaps I started this thread a few days too early, but now we have an official end to the nastiest lockout in pro sports, I think it's time to get excited about watching this Leafs team once again!

What can we expect from the Leafs this season? Can they finally make the playoffs this year or are we looking at the possiblity of coming up short yet again? (The only team to go through two lockouts without a single playoff birth) Do we get an upgrade in goal before this season officially begins?

For those amongst us who aren't too mad at the two parties for the crap they've dragged us through during this lockout.......it's time to get exciting about NHL HOCKEY once again!!!!!

Finally, now we get to bring in Boberto!!  8)  Booyah

Or maybe Burke runs with Bantam Ben and the Mennonite dude.

After 50 games last year leafs were 25-19-6. Guaranteed we're in the playoffs this year baby!!!

:-\

Yes. For shame. I know.  ;)

EDIT: Man, it's just nice to be discussing things that matter again, like how much people still hate Howard Berger. :D

Is anyone of note injured? I heard Gardiner might have had a concussion?

Hopefully they're holding him back for precautionary reasons, and he'll be ready to go when the Leafs hit the ice.

I'm looking forward to seeing if Kulemin can find his old form after a pretty good stint in the "K" during the lockout.

does anyone know if the schedule stands? I mean, are they just playing the games that haven't been cancelled yet or are they rewriting the schedule or what?

I'm not sure, but from what I've heard on radio etc., I think the schedule will be inter-conference only. So probably no Leafs vs Oilers, Flames or Canucks. Lots of divisional games, though.

I read 5 divisional games per team with the balance being within the conference. No East vs. West (obviously not confirmed.).

Hello everyone, first post!

I am really pumped up for this shortened season.  We have a team that's vastly improved IMO from the last season.  We have JVR, McClement, Komarov, and guys like Kadri and Gardiner who have matured and better ready for the NHL game.  Best of all, no Gustavsson!  No Wilson!  Scrivens has played amazingly well with the Marlies, and between Reimer and him, we should have a solid tandem.

Looking forward to this, and am very confident that we will make the playoffs!

:)

I think it's far too early to say they've vastly improved or improved at. I think McClement will help out the PK significantly and be part of a good checking line and I really am optimistic about JVR. But, we lost Schenn. While he struggled at times, he was also one of the most physical defensemen in the league and I don't see anyone on the team that can replace that as yet.

As usual with this team, it's really going to come down to how well the goaltending performs. My hope is that Carlyle will be able to instil a strong enough defensive system to help mitigate the amount of influence goaltending will have, but, regardless of how strong their defensive play becomes, if Reimer doesn't have a bounce back season or Scrivens doesn't rise to the challenge or whoever else is in net doesn't provide improved goaltending, it's not going to be enough.
