Ashton & Broll to Tampa

Clearing deck chairs on the Titanic.

Leafs were at 50 contracts. Clearing space to make a move.

Waivers would have done that ... but now we have that CONDITIONAL 7th round pick..... OOOOH I can hardly wait

Dump de Dump Dump.

I really like the "conditional" part of this.

Yeah. Great deal if the condition is the 7th turns into a 1st round pick if either of them plays a game in the NHL.  8)

How exactly would waivers clear up this issue?  Putting Ashton/Broll on waivers doesn't take them off the 50 contract limit.  A trade takes them off the 50 contract limit immediately, one or both could clear waivers and may not be picked up at all.  They weren't going to get anything in return for Ashton who at this point is a failed prospect and Broll is a non-prospect.

Of the guys like Broll, Devane, and Biggs, I really thought Broll would have become the best (well, only) NHLer. He looked like a big guy who could play a regular shift on the 4th line. But this season has gone pretty bad for him, so no real loss.

Also remember when we let a 2-week period of meaningless hockey decide that we should keep Ashton over Colborne? Good times.

I get what they're doing, but can't help but think surely they could have gotten at least a little bit of a better return.  :-\

I do remember getting into a rather heated argument with a few people on here who insisted that he just needed more icetime.  Uh, no.  He never showed anything, ever.

If they coulda, they woulda.

what the frog is a conditional 7th?  That one of them plays 10 games with the big team next year, what are the conditions?

Yeah. It almost like they took whatever they could as long as it happened now. Something big in the works, or making room just in case?

Yep. That's the best bid they got ... which may be absolutely nothing depending on the condition.

A condition I've got is I'm not too crazy about the GM who made a hunk of the mess being part of the fire sale ...
