Aulie sent down?

Wow. I understand the Gardiner-up, but I cannot understand the Aulie-sent-down. I thought Aulie was a huge part of stabilizing Phaneuf's game last year.

It's a numbers game. Gardiner making the team meant someone had to go down and the only other waiver-exempt defenseman is Aulie.

Who wasn't bad at camp, but didn't really stand out either.

They didn't do much in preseason when they were together.  Phaneuf has received a bit of a veteran pass for an indifferent preseason performance in my opinion. It's great that Gardiner dazzled but I wouldn't have minded seeing Dion dazzle a little too. He'll need to if they're going to make the playoffs. To some degree, although he certainly bears some responsibility for his own play, Aulie took the fall.

Aulie might benefit from working with Eakins a bit to start.  Hopefully we jettison Komisarek at some point this season and Aulie can reclaim a spot on the blueline.

It won't surprise me one bit to see Aulie back up and Gardiner sent down. I expect both of them to get a good chunk of NHL time in this year.

I predicted he'd be sent down.  Too many defensive and not enough offensive defensemen.  Kind of reminds me of Aki Berg.
