Bell or Rogers

I have finally bought a house and I am moving out! For the first time in my life I will have a place of my own for me and my family.

The BIG question is Bell or Rogers? I have four TVs. I will need internet too. Any recommendations? At my previous place it was Rogers. I didn't mind it but recently Rogers went through this update and the receiver after the update was really slow.

So any recommendations?

We've always been rogers customers. I've never had problems. Every time something hasn't worked properly or we've questioned something on the bill, it's taken care of.

Whoever you go with be sure to play them off each other. I am with Rogers and once a year I will call them with a Bell flyer in hand. From there I say well I'm getting a pretty good offer from Bell here and I usually get discounts.

I recommend Rogers.

In terms of pricing, they are pretty much the same. You can always get one to match the other. In terms of adding additional costs, they both do that regularly.

From my experience Rogers has the far greater customer service. I know Bell has been a nightmare in the past...now sure if they improved it lately. I never am on hold for more then 5 mins with Rogers. We even had a problem with a HD/PVR box and had over 4 servicemen coming out to check it out, each time putting new equipment such as better cables/signal boosters are no extra cost. It ended up being a faulty box and it was annoying needing five visits to learn that. That being said, they never gave us a hard time and visited us within 2 days of the call.

I've done tech support for both cable and phone-line based internet service.  I'd say one of the biggest factors can depend on exactly where you are.  Phone lines degrade service ever so slightly the further they're run.  I know at my own house, they have to turn down the speed to avoid lost transmissions.  This actually makes it faster because things act right the 1st time rather then having to repeat.  Some places have too many users on the cable and it can be allot slower then one expects.  I'd ask your new neighbors for their opinions, and it might be a good conversation starter.

If Bell's Fibe services are available I would look at them.  The TV packages looked better to me (TSN HD came with a cheaper package at least) and the channel flipping and stuff is fast in my experience.  Still I would look at what you want and compare with Rogers' offerings.

If there is no Fibe only satellite and slower DSL, forget it and go with Rogers for sure.

All I know is that I've never received good customer service from Bell (in the brief time I bothered with them) and I almost always get exemplary customer service from Rogers.

With Bell, you'll get TSN and pay for Sportsnet. With Rogers, it's the other way around. Internet and home phone wise, it's fairly comparable. I've been shopping around myself.

Ah interesting.  So just like you need an expensive package to get TSN HD with Rogers, you need to pay a big bill to get Sportsnet HD with Bell?  Laaame because you need both to get all the Leaf games.

Neither!  ;D

What choice do we have?  I'm with Rogers for the internet, cable, and wireless.  Everything else (landline) is Bell.

So far, they're both good for what they offer.  Still think cable is better.  My relatives had Bell satellite for awhile, then, they switched to Rogers for just about everything, even the home phone.  My Aunt, same.  Guess they found it not only better, but, a little more seamless and streamlined.

I just got Bell Fibe TV with internet about a month ago. So far very happy with the product.

The tech told me that Bell Satellite will soon go the way of the do-do bird, and Fibe TV will rule the day. Great to have a choice when you live in a condo that doesn't allow satellites.  :)

Thank you all for your input. I think I will stick with Rogers. Besides, Bell Fibe is not available to where I am moving.

I just hope I can play Rogers off Bell and get a really good deal for a bundle (Phone, Tv, net).

I had Rogers for quite a long time as the had better features, better price and decent service.  I switched last year to Bell because Rogers capped their internet usage with MAJOR costs for going over here in New Brunswick.

I do have the fibre at home and it is fast but I wasn't using my full bandwidth with Rogers anyway so how fast do I really need it.

Rogers does give you a bundle discount for having 2 or more services. Its 10% for home phone, internet, and cable. There may be something better available so don't be afraid to ask.

THat depends on what you call expensive. The Rogers package to get TSN HD (and TSN 2 HD) is $10/month and comes with a bunch of other channels as well.

+1  I have done this, as well as have several friends and family members.  Works like a charm.

Also, if you do go for Rogers, make sure you contact your local Rogers guy rather than the head office. They always have deals they can offer you - like 6 months of everything for free if you get cable, internet and home phone.
