Ben Bishop traded to LA

Per Bob McKenzie.

No word yet on the return. Quick just returned from his injury and obviously the Kings want some insurance there. And apparently Peter Budaj's .917 save percentage wasn't enough.

TSNBobMcKenzie: Official from LA: Bishop and 5th-rd pick in 2017 for Budaj, Erik Cernak, a 7th-rd pick in 2017 and a conditional 2017 pick.

Seems like a soft return, though, admittedly, I don't know a ton about Cernak or what the conditional pick is/could be.

That seems like a pretty lackluster return.

Agreed!  I guess they figured it was better than losing him for nothing in the summer.  I would have thought they'd be able to get more back for him.

Any chance Quick's groin is permanently hurt/not right and he hangs them up?

Considering he got through last night's game injury free, unlikely. Bishop is more likely a short-term insurance policy.

What surprised me the most is that a team like Calgary, a playoff bound group that desperately needs a starting goalie, couldn't top this.

Hard to take it at face value with people criticizing the return but apparently Yzerman is saying he didn't even get any other offers, let alone this being the best of the bunch.

Interesting. Maybe Calgary has their heart set on Fleury? Wonder what he goes for after this move.

I wonder if McElhinney has some decent value, as a backup of course....

The waivers thing makes trading him tricky. He'd have to be offered to any team that put in a claim on him for free (as well as Columbus, I believe) before a trade could be completed.

That being said, I think it's largely a moot point. Unless a team makes a crazy offer on him, he's not being moved.

Oh...well that's not nearly as much fun as my idea of just turning him into a second round pick or something.

Unfortunately, real life is rarely as fun as most of your ideas.
