Game Notes
CHI
-Arvid Soderblom (1-4-1, 2.36 GAA, .926 Sv%) will likely start for the Blackhawks
-Connor Bedard hasn't had the greatest of sophomore seasons. He has just 5 goals this season and recently was on a 12-game goalless drought. He does have 2 goals and 4 points in his last 3 games though so he might be turning things around soon
TOR
-Joseph Woll (6-2-0, 2.13 GAA, .923 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
-I'm not a mind-reader so don't be surprised if either goalie starts for the Leafs here. Woll's been on a bit of a roll but Stolarz could also use a game against a maybe not-so-tough opponent to get him back on track
-Jake McCabe of course left Saturday's game after getting hit with a puck in the head but Berube's comments seemed to indicate that he was fine afterward and wouldn't miss any time

Blackhawks are idiots for not giving Mrazek this start and also potentially scratching former Leafs great Joey Anderson.

They're not really trying to win. Foligno is absolutely going to rip a laser 3 ft wide and it will bounce in off an ass.

I still think my favourite game of this era (playoff wins aside and maybe that crazy 5-0 3rd period comeback) was the game where Matthews and Kane kept trading off goals late in the 3rd.

Hand to the ear and Kane threw back at him, that was great.

I wonder if his contract was even insurable...Leafs may be on the hook here, and maybe just feed him a few games here and there and see if he can play any meaningful playoff games.
On a one year deal, the insurance is not a huge issue - especially for a team as wealthy as the Leafs (and also as it’s not a particularly large contract). But, the odds of him contributing in any meaningful way keep getting smaller and smaller.

Putting him on IR rather than LTIR maybe leaves a sliver of hope
Only 2 games played since Mar 19, 2024 ...
The only ones who can really say much are the player and the team.
I'm not into the media speculation.
It has to be increasingly difficult to count on Hakanpaa for much next spring.

Yep, that's what I was thinking...I know around $1.5m on a 1yr deal isn't financially material to the Leafs, but the insurance thing was just a thought for a guy that many thought might not play again. I'd think they're simply looking at him as a playoff add for $1.5m cost at this point if things continue to look like a decent playoff seeding is likely.

Maybe. Could also just be a matter of not needing the space and hoping that the roster will be healthy enough to be out of LTIR as soon as possible. I guess we’ll see.
