Game Notes

CBJ
?Korpisalo (3-2-1, 2.66 GAA, .905 Sv%) will likely start for the Blue Jackets
?Columbus is doing its best to just hang in there so far this season, which is probably the best anyone could have hoped for
?Four players, Dubois, Jones, Nyquist, and Wennberg, are tied for the team lead in points. They each have 4 points in 8 games

TOR
?Andersen (5-2-0, 3.08 GAA, .902 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Could Hutch make a rare 1st game of a B2B start?
?Johnsson left the game on Saturday against Boston. He also missed practice yesterday but x-rays came back negative and Babcock didn't rule him out of this game

Injuries

?Ryan Murray - Upper Body - Questionable Monday
?Josh Anderson - Upper Body - Injured Reserve
?Brandon Dubinsky - Wrist - Injured Reserve

?Andreas Johnsson - Leg - Questionable Monday

Honestly if the team's ability to win with Hutchinson in net is as negatively affected as people suggest then I'm really not sure that starting him in one game vs. the other really changes how many points the Leafs should expect.

I actually think it makes sense to start Andersen tonight; it's the best chance to get points.  Tomorrow will be the 3rd game in 4 nights, on the road after being at home.  Ludicrous.  It's nice that the geniuses in charge of scheduling decided to concede that one to Boston.  Why fight it?  Tell Hutch there's no pressure, just go out there and stop pucks and who knows we may get lucky.  Plus it's a subtle screw-you to the Bruins, we're not bothering with our starter in your building, just like you did to us.

I thought the same about this. Might as well bank the points/higher likelihood of winning with Andersen than risk Hutch getting lit up and then the team being tired against Boston.

Returning from injury + GTA kid (ok, southern Ontario) = 1 goal

I can really see both sides to this argument. Like the flip to this is if you can't trust Hutchinson to give you a solid chance to beat a low scoring team like Columbus (30th in GF/GP) then you may as well make me the back-up goalie.

I think for me it's more about a division opponent vs. a conference opponent.  I care more about the 2 points against Boston than the 2 points against Columbus.

Not that my opinion matters on roster moves but I think I legitimately don't trust Hutchinson to win games for the team.  I also understand that it's a weakness of the team due to the circumstance of having a top heavy lineup that lacks cost controlled players on good contracts outside of Rielly and Barrie.

I definitely think Hutch is right near/at the bottom end of back-up goalies, but to his credit basically every time we've seen him he's been playing the second part of a back-to-back and sometimes against pretty good teams. I'd just like to see him get some softie games. Andersen's good enough to win us some of those that we shouldn't, Hutch obviously isn't.

I, for one, would like the see this team continue to develop into one that plays a goalie-agnostic game, where any average joe schmo would be fine (a la Tampa). We're pretty far from that goal but I think it's on the right track as the defense corps is gradually filled out with Dermotts/Sandins and the top end guys continue to track back deep for break out support.

I would imagine this is confirmation that Freddy is starting.

It's been Babs M.O. for a long time so not sure why we would expect anything different.

I do tend to agree with him though.  Give yourself the BEST opportunity to bank points and then deal with the consequences afterwards.

I'm assuming you're referring to how they fared in the regular season last year. I think Tampa's year last year was for sure an outlier. I don't think you can bank on almost any team posting Tampa's 21-5 record last year with Domingue's SV% of .908

Yeah, I mean you can always lose Game 1 but at least you put yourself in the best position to bank some points. Kind of reminds me game theory a bit.
