The annual tradition of Boyle getting dealt for a 2nd rounder.

Not that I think that Boyle is a real difference maker, but a number of teams in the East were probably after him too (Bruins, Caps, Islanders).

I actually think he is a difference maker. Not quite to the extent of a bonafide 1st liner, but he brings some tools that every playoff team can benefit from.

Agreed. I think he's still among the better 4th line centers in the league, but, that's not a position that moves the needle all that much.

I mean if Lou really wants a 4th line center on the Islanders and wants to give up a 2nd rounder we have a Goat ready to go.

Boyle actually played very little centre while in New Jersey. It showed a little during his time here but I think his lack of speed has pretty much forced him to move to the wing.

I did not realize that. That definitely moves his value down a peg.

Big body who can grind it out in the bottom six and put up a point here and there.

Reasonable pickup and price for a team adding depth to go on a Cup run.

I haven't watched much of him while he was with the Devils but my impression here was that his lack of speed had made him only so-so on the penalty kill and he's never been great on face-offs. His possession numbers are fine, I guess.

I don't get it outside of picks in the 50-60 range being of limited value but still.

It's the fringiest part of the roster, but... why not just call up someone from the AHL, which is free?

Ex teammate so known guy in the locker room and all that? Easier to fit in?

Cody McLeod was picked up by the Rangers on waivers... from Nashville.

Just because players go on waivers, doesn't mean they don't like them. Only so much roster room and waiver exempt players.

It's a 2020 7th round pick, it's pretty much free.
