VAN
?Thatcher Demko (1-7-2, 4.01 GAA, .874 Sv%) will likely start for the Canucks

TOR
?Erik Kallgren (1-2-3, 3.00 GAA, .886 Sv%) will likely start for the Maple Leafs
?Keefe confirmed that Murray will not be returning from his injury on Saturday. The starter for this game has not been confirmed so Kallgren will either go back to back or 23-year old Keith Petruzzelli will make his NHL debut

Hope we see Petruzzelli.

I wouldn't mind either what can it hurt. Keefe probably won't play him tonight especially after losing last night. Regardless until some bigger changes are made team isn't going anywhere. Bigger issues with this team this year and something needs to change in my opinion soon or this season will be a write-off.

I think Kallgren is ok but I just haven?t seen a guy that I absolutely trust.

SV% is relative because the Vegas game hurt his SV% while he was far from bad but end of the day you need your goaltenders to make saves.  He had an .888 SV% last year and is .886 this year.  He?s the #3 goalie so that fine but it would be nice to have a number three who could eventually be the next number 1.  I just don?t see that with Kallgren.

I?d like to see Petruzelli get a game.  He?s not ready for the NHL long term but we are talking about 1 game

Kallgren's actually our 4th goalie. Woll is ahead of him and if he were healthy, he'd be playing for the Leafs right now. I get what you're saying  but let's keep in mind, he's only played 21 NHL games and 29 AHL games so he's relatively new to the North American rinks and game. I think he still has potential.

In the 2018-2019 season,  St Louis was lasts one league standings when the calendar turned.  They went on to win the Cup.  Maybe the Leafs end up not making the playoffs.  Who knows?  But, the point is, I think your ongoing assessment of this team as ?broken? is overly pessimistic.  These guys are human.  Maybe stuff is going on in their lives. Maybe Mariner?s carjacking experience last summer is weighing on him.  Give it some time, these are very good players who are underperforming.

The problem with this team is deeper than we see. What is there to be optimistic about? Team has played roughly 15 games and I would say have shown up for maybe a third of them. You can blame the injuries, goaltending to some extent but the team hasn't performed anywhere near what was expected. Maybe they are overrated, maybe some have given up on Keefe I don't know. Yes we are only a sixth into the season, plenty of time to turn it around but personally I think they are deeper issues with this team and I'll say it again the core needs to be broken up. Marner and Matthews are starting to remind me of LeBron and Tom Brady. Star athletes who are managing the team to some extent. We see where that's headed. Egos have taken over.

Lebron has gone to 10 NBA Finals and Brady has gone to 9 Superbowls. I would love it if M&M get similar results.

Ya they have but they have also have acted as GM's for their teams calling the shots, wanting certain players and to be honest is BS. You get paid to play not manage. I'm starting to get the same vibes from M&M and not in the sense of bringing in personnel but being coddled and pampered and basically running the show. That was evident when Marner has his hissy fit, should have been benched for the rest of the game. Again when Keefe called them out and then had to retract his statements. I love both of them as players, they are elite but in my honest opinion starting to be a cancer in the dressing room. Matthews has disappeared. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I see things differently but I haven't been sold on this core you all know that. Problem now is the scoring and I'm sure will get better has dried up and thus the crappy record. These guys don't bring it each night. Far too often they are invisible and for guys making 11 million per that's a concern.

azzurri, you are old school and there's nothing wrong with that, but these guys in their 20s are simply not going to approach the game the same way somebody in the 70s would.  They aren't going to have the same attitudes, and they won't ever be the type of player you want them to be.  Matthews is top 3 in the league, Marner top 20 at the very least.  It's an 82-game season and they simply aren't going to "bring it" every game ... they are pacing themselves.

The big concern this team has is that Dubas's system can be shut down and neither he nor the coaches don't have a Plan B.  We see it most alarmingly in the playoffs, but we saw it last night.  I personally don't think Keefe is the right guy for this group, but he's executing the system in place.
