Game Notes
WSH
-Logan Thompson (7-0-0, 2.55 GAA, .910 Sv%) will likely start for Capitals
-The Capitals are one of the biggest surprises of the season so far. A 39-year old Alex Ovechkin looks like he's 10 years younger with 10 goals in 14 games this season. That puts him just 31 goals behind Wayne Gretzky for the all-time goal scoring record
-It's still Dylan Strome leading the team in scoring with 22 points in 14 games. He's also assisted on all 10 of Ovechkin's goals so far this season
TOR
-Joseph Woll (2-2-0, 2.27 GAA, .905 Sv%) will start for the Leafs
-Toronto should be incredibly well-rested for this game as it's the first one they'll have played in since Sunday

Nice Carlton...I'm quite glad to have missed last night's game.

I think there’s plenty of reason now to let Steeves have a go
Ya what's the point of calling him up if he isn't going to play. Mind you he's not going to make a difference. He's been called up before and nothing to get too excited about. I'd rather call up Greybonkin. He might actually play for us one day other than some of these scrubs we have in the A. Probably struggle but at least get some valuable experience. I know he's playing well in the A and gaining valuable experience but we need some injection of youth and possible skill. I read yesterday bottom 6 can all go I agree. Not much contribution from any of them.

Why change what's not working...

Steeves has never looked like a difference maker at this level, but why not put him in for a game. Grebenkin looked the most intriguing of all the young players in preseason and he could probably play a useful role on the 3rd or 4th line but I do understand if they want to let him acclimate some more.

You give guys that have put up 9 goals in 10 games a nice little call up so that they get NHL money for a reward even if you don't end up playing them.

I think it's a good idea to ensure that your farm team prospects know that if they play well, they'll get rewarded.

Having said that, after last night, I'm sure that there'd be a guy that could use a check-up in the press box.

McCabe-Tanev
Rielly-Hakanpaa
OEL(1K)-Timmins

Makes sense to me

I don’t know what to do with the forwards given their centre depth and scoring depth and competence depth is shite.

Knies-Tavares-Marner
McMann-Domi-Nylander
Robertson-Holmberg-Steeves
Lorentz-Kampf-Dewar

Is maybe the closest I can get to okay. BMW and Marlies line need some sheltering

Nylander likes scoring against his dad’s old team.

From last night's MLHS game summary:

Under Sheldon Keefe, the regular-season hockey may have been more chancey, but the team was rarely out of a game. Granted, the Leafs are without the best goal-scorer in the world at the moment, but they also have some work to do to figure out the formula for playing tighter hockey while accessing another gear offensively when they need it.

There was always going to be a price to pay (beyond sheer entertainment value) for Berube playoffs-all-season hockey, and this is it. I'm not saying I'm against it, but we need to recognize that they have much less capacity to erase big leads than we are used to.

If he does play, I would guess it's Benoit that goes out?

It better be. Of the 6 defensemen, unless McCabe or Tanner get banged up and need a maintenance game off, Benoit has been the worst defensemen so far this year. He was lucky to avoid another penalty or two last night. He's been a liability that way and Timmins has been good.

I do like the idea of Rielly with a giant monster in Hakanpaa but I don't love the idea of overusing OEL if he plays with Tanev

Based on performance I think a message benching for McMann isn't an unreasonable thing but I also hate the idea of playing Reaves in back to backs when he's constantly behind the play every game anyway.

I hope they trade him too. He's never going to get a chance where he should be in the lineup, and will be a scratch come playoff time if he is still here. Best thing for him would be to go to a non-contender where he can play on the top 2 lines with good young players. I bet he'll eventually have 30+ goal seasons in this league. Next (smaller) Carter Verhaeghe maybe? Maybe I'm overestimating his potential but he has so many skills.
