First re-signing... Connor Carrick (1yr, 1.3M)

Seems costly for a guy who only played 47 games and wasn't necessarily trusted by the coach.

Fairly healthy bump from his last deal ($750k AAV, but he made $850k last season).

Coach has to work with the players the GM gives him.

Don't get me wrong... I think its clear the new GM likes him more than the old one (and probably more than the coach). Just surprised they need to get to 1.3M salary for him to re-sign.

I think Babcock actually likes Carrick, but can't stomach the DZ turnovers. He just felt like he needed what Polak provided more (heavy PK), nevermind that Polak is a different type of turnover machine.

Unless they think they can trade him and that contract, I'm not sure why they'd bother.  He's done little to nothing to deserve it.

Ugh...for real this time, I don't think Carrick did enough to deserve anything but the role he played last year, and that's not worth $1.3m against my cap.

I know they've got a little room this season, and it's only one year, but still. I'd have thought around $900K to sit in the press box for half the season.

I'm with Frank.  Carrick's only asset is his handedness.

I was a big Carrick fan after the 16/17 season, but even when he was in the line-up he didn't impress me much this past season. It's possible that was just a usage thing, so I'm willing to give him another chance. He's still young-ish (he's only a year older than Borgman, and Rosen is actually a couple months older than him).

Borgman deserves to be in the lineup more than CC, but again, handedness.

Hard to get into a groove when you're playing every second game with limited minutes. When he was getting consistent playing time he looked significantly better than Polak.

Hopefully this signals that the new GM values possession/rushing more than Lou and Babcock seem to.
