Christmas Shopping

haha that is awesome.

On a serious note I still have to start my shopping, what do you do when you ask people what they want and all they say is "we don't need anything" :S

I was thinking gift cards, but that seems boring, my parents are the hardest, I used to get them framed pictures of wolves/polar bears because they like those, but they have no more room for that kind of stuff, same with small sculptures.

My kids don't want to go shopping with me to find gifts from them to Mom... They'd rather go shopping with Grandma... all I have to do is give her cash.

Well, everyone's gotta eat, so if they don't want any gifts, I say take em out for a nice dinner.

well, the polar bears could come this way....

on a more helpful note, everyone needs a calendar (which National Geographic has gorgeous both polar bear and wolf ones). How about a gift basket with some of their favourite things (wine, spirits, cookies, nuts, fruit etc). Get photos of all their family (amass across the age groups) and put together an album for them. Tickets to a concert, sporting event, theatrical showing? Books? Donation to a favourite charity in their name? My kids made my last birthday the best ever by adopting a polar bear in my name. Polar Bears International or the WWF will do that.

just a couple ideas...

Agreed with this or similar ideas. I know I absolutely mean it when I say that I don't need/want any gifts. Many people are struggling financially, me included, and i don't want to know someone spent money on me for something that I truly don't want or need. Maybe it's part of getting older (and of having a young boy), but I truly would prefer the opportunity to just spend some quality time with my few friends and family than receive any gifts.

My wife and I are following a strict $100 budget this year. That is, we're absolutely not spending more than $100 on each other. Many gifts for other people are being made by my wife. A number of people who we'd get gifts for in the past just simple aren't getting anything.

I started this week and I'm hoping to finish it today. Thankfully my list consists of only 2 people, my parents.

Count me in as respecting the wishes of those who say they want nothing.

All our shopping is done, with nary a mall visit. My family is huge on food gifts, so it's granola, Greek yogourt, and lemon curd (all homemade) for them, plus alcohol and sweets from my travels this year.

The teens all get money, father-in-law gets homemade, heat and eat meals in line with his dietary requirements, and I'm going away with my husband for a week.

I figure I'll follow my annual Christmas Shopping tradition of the Eaton Centre on the 23rd. It indulges my urge towards procrastination and I'll get a rematch with the Humungus.

I probably spent way too much money on the material gifts I got for family members, but it was stuff the kids need- I have a student in university who will appreciate the grocery, book and liquor store gift cards, and my younger one needs his laptop repaired, so we're covering that for him

....but instead of doing Christmas cards for those who live nearby, I baked/made 12 different kinds of Christmas cookies this year. I bought inexpensive little boxes for them at the dollar store and gave these out to coworkers etc. Sorry to those at CanadaPost :D

Good luck to you, my friend.

It's actually not that bad. I do enough shopping at big stores with lots of registers that I can get in and out pretty quickly.

I read this a while ago but have been busy and not had a chance to reply til recently. I ended up getting them an electric skillet and some gift cards and chocolates, I finally got them to give me some suggestions lol

I really like the adopt a polar bear suggestion, my mom would really like that as she loves animals, I think I will be getting her that for mothers day! Thanks :-D
