Curtis Glencross traded to Washington

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie

The 2nd and 3rd round picks CGY gets from WSH in Glencross deal are 2015 draft. Trade call hasn't happened yet, though.

Man, prices seem to be waaaayyy higher this year compared to last. Glencross is a pretty meh middle-6 forward.

I think they're higher as well. Upcoming draft seems to be decent. Not a bad time for a fire sale.

A little suprised given Calgary is still in the mix.

They're not going to win anything this spring. So they might as well make sure they get something for Glencross.

Saw a few more in the media today describing this as a sellers market (ie Duhatschek & others).

But the market for this year?s deadline was essentially set when the Toronto Maple Leafs pried loose a first-round pick from the Nashville Predators in the deal that sent Cody Franson and Mike Santorelli south.

In all, four first-rounders have already been traded: Nashville to Toronto; Buffalo to Winnipeg in the Evander Kane deal; Los Angeles to Carolina for Andrej Sekera; and Chicago to Arizona for Antoine Vermette. The prices seem high in what is considered one of the deepest drafts in a decade ? and the only explanation seems to be that there isn?t a single NHL powerhouse to fear this year; and thus, a lot of teams believe they have a legitimate chance to win a Stanley Cup championship.

Cash in, Leafs, cash in!

Actually Glencross was content to remain a Flame, quoted as saying he wanted to stay after playing some good hockey for them.  Not a player too eager to leave.

I highly doubt Toronto will make another deal of significance, which will probably be a big mistake.

Outside of bad offers, there's very little reason to keep Lupul/Phaneuf/Bozak and others.

ARI was willing to eat 50% of Yandle's contract next year, and it got them a 1st and a very highly regarded prospect.

Leafs should do the same with Lupul IMO. This team doesn't need the cap space in the next couple years as they should be a bottom feeder for some time yet.

I'd retain 100% (I'm guessing that's not allowed) of his salary for the next 3 years, if it meant a 1st and Pastrnak/Subban.

Max. retained salary/cap hit for one player is 50%.

Max. one team can retain is 15% of the cap.

A good layman's explanation is here:
http://www.mynhltraderumors.com/2015/03/01/nhl-cba-101-how-do-retained-salary-trades-work/

The Dubnyk example is interesting. Basically his cap hit is being shared by two teams and his salary by three teams!
