Can we get a thread going for him?

Despite being pointless since his return, I really like the element he brings. He plays with size, looks to rub out opponents, and seems to be an all around swirling nexus of energy on most of his shifts.

Been a while since I was compelled to rush out and get a jersey. Digging the #71

He looked good against the Pens; only 2 shots, but 8 hits.  Lots of energy, very tenacious, and I like a guy who can pester in front of the net.  He adds an interesting element to the PP, too.  Dude just has to stay out of the penalty box and we're good.

During the game he seemed to always have a stunned or "i'm gonna kill somebody" look to him; I couldn't decide which it was.

So true, but I think it's "I'm gonna kill someone". Reminds of that look that Roberts had, not quite Darcy Tucker.

It's a fairly intense look, that's for sure. I'm really looking forward to what type of impact he can have on the team. He's the type of toughness this team needs, rather than face-punchers.

I've loved what he's brought to the team physically. And he's been a pretty good player in terms of possession time. But aside from doing some solid work cycling the puck and keeping it hemmed in the opposition's zone, he hasn't looked very dangerous offensively. I think a large part of that though is because he's been playing with Bolland/Raymond/McClement in more of a defensive role. Once we get healthy and he's on a line with Lupul and/or Kadri things might pick up for him a bit there.

He's only played 2 games while the rest of the league has had a 10 game head start on him.  Give him a few games to get his game legs going.

Yeah. It should come along in time. I'm just not expecting anything close to a 30 goal season from him. 15 or 20 would be real nice though.

His puck handling ability was noticeably off in Columbus - better against the Pens but nothing spectacular. I expect it to improve but he will never be in the same league as Kessel/Lupul/Kadri/JVr in terms of handling the puck.

Regardless, we have the above guys who bring that pure skill. Clarkson will serve a similar role as Bolland - will score some goals but more importantly, bring a ton of grit.

We should trade him.  His value will never be higher than it is now.

*runs away*

If we could trade him for picks right now, I'd take it for sure.
Be prepared to never sign another UFA.

Not that they would, but I highly doubt that would be the impact of it either, unless there's some example of that happening that I can't recall.

More complaining in the media again:

If he 'retires' do the leafs still get stuck with the cap hit? Hopefully he'll head over to Russia with his cancer buddy Kovalchuk

Where?

lol - here

I do not want to draw any conclusion based on 7 games he has played so far this season, but with exception of some good hits I have not seen anything which would warrant even half of that contract he was given. I am still hoping the real Clarkson somehow shows up, because if not, the Leafs are stuck with unmovable albatros contract.

He's come close to scoring a few times, but he isn't, or hasn't been, very accurate with his shots.

I always hear that he gets his goals in front of the net, and that maybe a problem because the Leafs aren't really a team that gets a lot of shots and second chances.  Mostly they use their speed to capitalize on turnovers, and it doesn't seem like that's Clarkson's game.

And maybe he doesn't need to score buckets of goals to have a role on this team, but a few sure wouldn't hurt.
