Looking at that bottom six I fully expect Reaves, Holmberg, and Robertson to be gone by the end of the season.

We haven't said a word about Calle Jarnkrok all season, it seems, but we have missed him.

Up to this many games played the Devils were 16-12-2 last season.

Keefe has been a slight net positive for the Devils so far.

Weird player because I don't exactly know where he fits into the team when it's fully healthy, especially if a 3C eventually shows up (or Minten sticks), but yeah man would it have been nice to see him playing higher in the line-up as opposed to like Holmberg for the past little while.

I don't even remember what he looks like on the ice.

If Minten sticks, who would he beat out in the top 9?
Knies Matthews Nylander
Pacioretty Tavares Marner
McMann Minten Domi

Maybe a McMann or Pacioretty but they contribute a physical element to those lines for puck battles, forecheck/takeaways and the front of the net that Jarnkrok doesn't.

I think he's been a very versatile player. When he played top six, he helped with the scoring.
He's not bad in the faceoff dot. He's good and responsible defensively - decent skater.
But his playoffs are troubling. His offense dries up.
Maybe he and Lorentz are the 4th line wingers ...
Maybe they flip him to get cap space ...

The benefit of Jarnkrok is that he is a utility winger you can slot into any of the 4 lines and at worst, he is just treads water. He's never a negative. Which means he can be positioned to help other wingers stay in more optimal slots while he plugs a hole. Holmberg is being used for that right now.

Some Keefe content this week with the game in town.

Would assume he would just slot onto the 4th line with Kampf and either Dewar or Lorentz at that point. That's the kind of trio that could handle some reasonable defensive assignments. With how things have gone this season though it's obviously hard to imagine the forwards being fully healthy at any point. We've never even really got a specific estimate for how long Jarnkrok will be out for.

I think Holmberg is a good player, still very much at the start of his career. He should be playing down the lineup however. I think his game has some jam. However starting Max on line 1 in his first game back was in my opinion a faux pas. Should have been with Tavares.

Here's the gist of what I've gathered after looking into it.
He had the groin/sports hernia surgery Nov 18th after other rehab efforts failed.
Very rough prognosis is 6-12 weeks after surgery before he can return to play. (some claim only 2-4 weeks .. probably varies with severity)
That conservatively places his probable return between Dec 30th and Feb 10th.
Puckpedia lists his expected return date as Jan 2nd. I don't know what their source is/was
About 10% of the time, they reinjure the surgically repaired area. No guarantees in this life.

Why is Reeves still in this lineup? Outside of Treliving's gaff
He's on pace for 0 fights this season
0.05ppg
He hits a lot
Not quick on his skates
Fair question

When McMann returns,
Lorentz Holmberg Dewar
seems like a more competitive useful 4th line.

If Berube wanted Reaves to fight, he would fight. Clearly Berube has given him instructions not to fight at this stage of the season. Anyone not following Chief's instructions would get benched.

Reaves has a lot of completed checks and although his play kind of sucks, it's better than last season where he was very noticeably a liability.

It indicates to me that Reaves is a part of the coach's playoff plans.

How far off is Domi from being Darcy Tucker. He’s already a bit unhinged.
Strange as it is to say it given his father, Max seems more disciplined.
He also puts up more points - better distributor of the puck but fewer goals - Darcy was the better shooter.
Both are close to "the unhinged line" I think Darcy could get crazier but that's subjective - might be wrong.
Neither struck me as great defensively.
Tucker played bigger than he was. Domi is a fair size.
To me, they're different players. Max's past helps keep him in line.

I'm guessing Max bumps Robertson ...
