Domi to MTL for Galchenyuk

https://twitter.com/mirtle/status/1007801110722068483

Seems like a fair trade to me - both have their strengths and their weaknesses.  Domi being considerably younger, though.

I mean, they both produced roughly the same amount of points last season, but Galchenyuk scores goals at a much better rate while playing a more valuable position. This not a good deal for Montreal.

So glad Bergevin is still employed by the Habs.

Never been a big Domi fan and I've always like Galchenyuk, from before he was even drafted. I really just don't get this from Montreal's point of view. Possibly their biggest trade chip and it doesn't even address the teams biggest weakness (centre). Unless of course they're going to convert Domi like they did Drouin, in which case I'm all for that since it'll probably also be a disaster.

Coyotes tried Domi at center last year. By far the biggest flop I have watched at center in 8 years of Coyote's hockey.  Let that sink in.

If it?s winger for winger it?s not too bad, Domi is younger and probably cheaper.

If I?m a Habs fan though I?m worried we?ve traded a 30 goal center for a winger with almost as many career goals as the center had in his best season.

If Domi signs a team friendly deal and they swing big in FA maybe you can make a case for it being a good deal...

Domi will make them harder to play against at least, when the chips are down he doesn?t sulk and likes to play with an edge and that?s still part of the game. Gallagher 2.0

I wonder if that's the thinking here. Maybe there were a lot of voices in the organization that wanted to address their pestiness and look at Brady Tkachuk or someone but by virtue of adding Domi they can look elsewhere at #3.

Or maybe they grab Tkachuk anyway.  The Rue Broad Bull?es?  :P

Domi is only 1 year younger than Galchenyuk. No real upside in age there.

On a team that struggles to score goals, why would they give up a player like Galchenyuk for a player like Domi.

Matt Cane's prediction model had him signing for 2 years at $3.66mil.

Assuming the WAR metric used here is reasonable-ish (and the issues would be systematic anyway)... I'm cool with this. Keep up the good work, GMMB.

I actually think that this trade will finally work out for the Habs ,unlike their previous ones. He will bring spark to a team that,s been lacking in excitement.

That's not a knock; this is a knock:

Like the spark he brought to Arizona? Not a fan of Domi at all. Arizona got the best player in the deal. Being a Leafs fan, I like the deal.

I hear what your saying,I,m enjoying the Habs futility, but they made so many sideway trades and worse. The law of averages probably gives them a break and they win a trade finally.
I know Domi didn't do much there ,but he may change in a hockey market like MTL.
