Tough break for Raffl who had a good game. Pretty sure that left ankle is done for the season.

The RTP plan gave Boston the bummest of bum deals. They're given up 6 goals in 4 periods of play.

I know that's mostly said in jest (at least, I think so), but they are a very top heavy team. 47% of their goals came from the top line (107/227). The rest of their forwards combined for 92 goals.

The Leafs are in a similar situation, except our top scorers are split across two lines (and there's 4 major contributors instead of 3). The Big 4 have combined for 50.6% (120/237), while the rest of our forwards have combined for 94 goals. If we look at just our top 3 goal scorers, it's a little more favourable for the Leafs - ~44% (104/237) and 110 for the rest of the forwards.

Boston, of course, it a much more consistent defensive team than the Leafs, but, if you minimize the damage from their top line, the rest of the team is quite easily contained. With the Leafs, the bulk of the offence is not all on the ice at the same time (other than when on the PP).

Mostly said in jest, but yes I'm totally on board with your analysis.

Thanks. Even with the imbalance, Boston is a tough team to beat in a 7 game series. The top line is absolute nightmare, and if Rask/Halak are in a groove, they're awfully tough to score on, as well. It's more that the game plan to defeat them is pretty clear - not easy to accomplish for most teams, but clear.

Don't forget the cheating.

I thought that was implied.

How are they ranking the play-in winners?  Is it from points % from the season?  If that's the case, Carolina is already in, Islanders close to being in, so Leafs could potentially be the 7th (or 8th team if Pens win) of the play-in winners.

I believe so, in which case, the winner of the Leafs/Blue Jackets series would avoid the Bruins in the next round (there's a very remote chance the winner of the series could end up against Boston, but it requires Florida to pull off a improbable comeback against the Islanders, the Pens to comeback against Montreal, and for Caps to lose both their remaining games, including at least one in regulation).

I keep saying this. This format is a joke. The President?s Trophy winner is going to be the 4th seed after some random 3-game round robin after 4.5 months off. Ridiculous.

Not that "home ice" is the most important thing right now, but I think a bit of a compromise here should have been for the round robin games to determine seeding like they are but for home ice to still be decided by who had the better regulation season points percentage.

Everything is so screwy with things.  Pittsburgh might get eliminated by a team that was 15 points behind them in the standings that also had 10 fewer regulation wins.  Boston had an 11 point lead on Philly for 1st in the East and its gone over two games in this bubble tournament.  I honestly think they should have just had the four top teams play scrimmages for nothing and kept the standings the same.
