Ex Penguin Adam Johnson

Utterly stupid.

Not trying to incite anything, but have you seen the video?  Or, at least, what happened to lead to the incident?  Before you develop an opinion, watch the play.  The incident happened in the middle of the ice, as Johnson is cutting at the blueline.  I think it absolutely warrants legal review.

I've never seen anything like it and cannot imagine why his skate was so high up. I only watched the video once and have no desire to study it further.

Sorry, I haven't seen it and shouldn't have commented the way I did. My bad.  However asking me to believe a murder charge of any sort can be associated with this is hard to imagine. From seeing it do you believe the player had made a deliberate attempt to injure?  or maim? If you go this far indite the UK hockey association for not mandating neck guards until someone died.  Very sad for everyone.

I?ve, unfortunately, seen it. There?s a couple of clips doing the rounds readily available even when you?re not really looking on social media. One shows only the impact. One shows the build up to the impact (another also shows the aftermath sadly).

The first 2 clips I mentioned could, I think, lead to a very different interpretation of what happened.

As per the above tweet that Herman linked to (someone I?ve had the pleasure of knowing for quite a while), I think it?s a matter of the various authorities following the due process to make sure they get things right in a fairly unprecedented situation.

I also think we, and the board, probably need to be careful about throwing around accusations.

It's just terrible.  I can't fathom that the player intended this outcome and I totally agree with you that everyone associated with this is suffering.  But, in my mind, there's no question that there was recklessness involved.

I have not watched or intend to watch the replay but I did go down the Reddit rabbit hole a bit and there are a lot of people who think the charges will stick. Some have said he attempted to impede Johnson with his leg intentionally, which could be interpreted as reckless, and since this reckless behavior led to death manslaughter could stick.

I am not sure he'd have time to think to make a conscious decision to try and hurt/impede Johnson.
Panthers fans and Steelers fans traditionally hate each other but we have been united by this incident - i've not seen a panthers fan suggest Petgrave did nothing more than lose balance.

An interesting read. The coroner was or is very soon due to give an update on the case also

The responses to the twitter thread are sadly predictable

There?s a lot of sad people out there. Protect the players with no actual impact to the on ice product? ThAt MuSt Be BaD!!!!1!!1!1

you'd think, since it's already mandatory in the CHL that the players who have been wearing them all along (my son had to wear one almost 20 years ago as a youngster ferpetessakes) will just continue to wear them from here on in. I mean, helmets and visors became mandatory over time, this isn't rocket science.....

People bitching about neck guards ruining the game.  Man I sure do love watching people potentially die on the ice.

That spectrum of hockey fans are the worst.
