So it's that time of year again, and most drafts should be getting underway soon or have already happened. This is the place to discuss strategy, predictions and to share your picks in your draft.

Mine was a 12 team league, snake draft, and I had the #1 overall pick. Picks were as follows:

1. (1) Alex Ovechkin LW
2. (24) Carey Price G
3. (25) Ilya Kovalchuk LW,RW
4. (48) Sidney Crosby C
5. (49) Claude Giroux C,RW
6. (72) Jaroslav Halak G
7. (73) James van Riemsdyk LW
8. (96) James Reimer G
9. (97) Tyler Myers D
10. (120) Teemu Selanne RW
11. (121) John-Michael Liles D
12. (144) Mikhail Grabovski C
13. (145) Sheldon Souray D
14. (168) Al Montoya G
15. (169) Zach Bogosian D
16. (192) Steve Downie RW

I would also appreciate some advice/criticisms for my own team, i.e. some areas I should look at.

I really like van reimsdyk but I am able to get him well after pick 100.  I would say you probably have too much goaltending imo, might want to trade halak for some good scoring but it is a pretty decent team.

Are there any other decent goalies available on the waiver wire you could swap Montoya for?  It's too early to know for sure, I know, but he could be back in the AHL this season behind Nabokov & DiPietro.  (Until DiPietro gets injured, of course!)

Goalies, especially starting goalies become pretty rare as the season goes on. I intended to trade him to someone desperate later down the line, although I had forgotten about Nabokov.

Probably a good Leaf related debate but who has the better year, Kaberle or JML?

I've flip-flopped a number of times just in the few minutes I've thought about it, but I'll say Kaberle. There will probably only be a few points separating the two though. I'd guess they'll both be in the 45-50 point range.

Yeah... It's close. Skinner/Staal/Jokinen (or Ruutu)  on the PP is probably a trio up front than the Leafs can boast so we'll see.

Now... Where to draft Crosby  ??? I'm compiling my lst for a snake draft next week (points only) and I just have no idea where to slot him in.

I've generally seen him go around 10th overall, give or take 2 spots. The news that he may be accompanying the Penguins on their opening road trip (which doesn't guarantee he'll play) could push him up a bit too.

Really surprised to see Selanne went that late.  I would have thought someone would take him in the top three rounds based on the point total from last season.  Is the consensus that he will not repeat?

Selanne finished 8th in NHL scoring last year. In my poinys only snake draft coming up this year, I'm, hoping folks forget about him (as I always have.) I figure id I can get him in the mid 20s, I did well. Do you guys see any reason why he won't finish in the mid 20s in scoring this year?

Eventually a group of Antareans will come fetch Selanne - when that happens who knows. That's the only thing I'd be weary of.

Best European forward ever?

I'd give that honor to Jagr but thats just me

Agreed. I'd even put Forsberg ahead of Selanne if we're not really taking longevity into account, but I'm a huge Forsberg fan. Selanne goes next. And all they go behind Hasek and Lidstrom if the question is 'player' not 'forward'.

Jagr has looked pretty good so far in the pre-season -  4G 2A in 3 games.
If he can stay motivated all year can he score 30-40 goals? If Selanne can still do it there's no reason Jagr can't IMO.
