Flyers fire Laviolette

Flyers have fired Peter Laviolette, per a source. Replacing him with Craig Berube. Press conference at 11am.

After 3 games  ;D  This strikes me as a move they should have made after last season if they didn't like the guy.

Insane. A month ago Snider gave him and Holmgren a vote of confidence and said they thought last season was an anomaly (which it very well could have been).

There were a lot of pretty good coaches available in the summer if Philly made this decision when they should have.

What a gong show. Firing him last year was the right choice. They didn't make it but then make it 3 games in? Wow.

Holmgren, or Ed Snider's puppet has made a number of franchise torpedo'ing decisions in the last 8-9 months.  This decision was the right one, just a ridiculous time to do it.

A few years later, the Richards trade looks bad in my opinion. Carter got them Voracek and Couturier, but I'd take Richards over Schenn and Simmonds.

I don't know about that. Over the last two seasons, only Scott Hartnell has scored more goals for the Flyers than Simmonds has. Schenn's looking like a bit of a disappointment, sure, but Simmonds looks like an excellent addition. He's outscored Richards since the trade. I'd probably still make both deals.

Funny how quickly the shine wore off the Schenn brothers.  Philli paid a high price for both and it really seems to have backfired.

Very little Holmgren has done in the last 3'ish years has he come out on top, or managed to break even.

Lolz.  Oh Flyers. Never change.

Hopefully they have a few more panic attacks and trade Couturier to us.

I'm sure they will give him 2 more games before deciding he's a bust and move him out.  Hey maybe they need Liles! (actually, they could use a Liles)

In fairness to the Flyers, this move makes a little bit of sense if you consider that Laviolette hasn't made a single save this year.

Without knowing anything of the situation -- why Berube of all people?

Yeah, it kind of screams "No Plan"...

Seems like this is just another Ed Snider reactive decision.

We harp on Holmgren but you know Snider is driving a huge percentage of what happens to that team.  No way a GM signs and then buys out a goalie 2 yrs later for the cash they did and doesn't get canned if the boss knows it's not his fault ... along with all the other goofball things they've done recently.

Holmgren is just a puppet.

I think I would do the same.

On one hand losing Richards and Carter took the heart and soul out of the Flyers, but they did get very good value for them and I'm not convinced that Richards is going to hold up all that well as he ages. (Sort of like Brenden Morrow).

I assumed he was part of the coaching staff and is just an interim coach.

FriedgeHNIC: According to PHI release, Berube is full-time head coach. No interim tag.

To be fair, all coaches are "interim", some just last longers than others.  ;)

Holmgren is just a puppet.

It certainly looks that way a lot.
