#Kings Gaborik #NHL 7 yr deal comes in just north of 34m.  His aav comes in under 5m.  Good deal for LA

Wow, I didn't think he'd get that term, but yeah, good on LA.

Shorter term probably would have meant a higher AAV.

They are tight against the cap and it allows them keep the cup winning team together.

Good cap hit, too many years. I think they'll regret the last few seasons on this one.

Performance wise, that's a steal for the next 3 years at least. The only question mark will be his health. Even if he plays more like a 2nd liner after that $4.9mil will be very manageable with the cap probably closer to $80mil.

I mean, I think it sometimes gets overlooked just how good Gaborik is when healthy. If they even get two 35+ goal seasons out of this deal it probably ends up being worth it on that basis alone.

Which should not be a problem playing with Kopitar and if he nets another 10+ goals in another playoff run,  the deal would be a steal.

Well, it'll be health that determines it, not who he plays with. Not counting his rookie year, Gaborik's career low goal total when playing 70+ games is 30 and that was in his second and third years in the league. He's averaged 35 goals per 82 games for his career without playing with Kopitar. From 05-06 to 2011-12, his last healthy season, he's scored at a 44 goals per 82 game rate.

If he'd stayed healthy his entire career, we'd be talking about him as one of the very upper echelon of the league. Maybe only behind someone like Ovechkin as a goal scorer.

So, at least in terms of the cap, Gaborik is making 0.4 million more than the Oilers decided to give Nikita Nikitin this morning.

lol

Or, you know, $0.375mil less than Clarkson.
