Gaborik to CBJ?

DarrenDreger: Return for Gaborik. Derek brassard Derek Dorset and John Moore. Still pending waive and call.

If that's it, it's largely a cap dump move for the Rags.

Sather doesn't mess around.

Not sure why this made me laugh, but Gaborik currently has 333 goals and 333 assists in his NHL career.

So basically, it ended up being

Nash
Brassard
Dorsett
John Moore
6th

for

Gaborik
Dubinsky
Anisimov
Tim Erixon
1st

The Rangers got HOSED.

TSNBobMcKenzie: NYR trade Gaborik to CBJ for Brassard, John Moore, Dorsett and 6th round pick. #tradecentre

Dorsett is out for the season.

Sounds like he should have gone to the devils.

Well-stroked, good sir!

Nash is by far the best asset out of both groups though, so while NY may not have come out ahead, it's not that lopsided.

Pretty amazing that Gaborik has gone from 40 goal scorer to traded in the space of a season.

I think Gaborik is very close in value to Nash. Last season, a straight-up Nash for Gaborik trade would not have been out of the question. When you factor in all the other assets that CBJ acquired versus the filler NYR got, it certainly seems like a drubbing to me. Gaborik is a 40 goal threat every year.

Even on that level, it's not that bad. Moore and Erixon are about equal, as are Brassard and Anisimov. Dubinsky isn't the player he was a couple seasons ago, and is fairly injury prone - he and Dorsett aren't significantly different in value right now either, all things considered. Yeah, the Rags gave up more if you combine these deals, but, they also got the best player, so, all in all, it's pretty balanced.

With the way Gaborik's been playing this year, I don't think their values are all that close. Nash is putting together a pretty solid season for NY while Gaborik has been playing terrible.

Not to mention, if it hasn't already, but the Rags didn't pay anything for Gaborik, he was a UFA signing, no?

Why do the Rangers trade picks for Clowe, but then give up Gaborik for futures?

How bad exactly was Gaborik this year?

Pretty bad, but, it was also a cap move - they spread out the $7.5M cap hit he had among a few more guys next season.

So the Rangers are the lowest scoring team, and trade for a guy with 0 goals, yet dump a former 40 goal man... Will that work ?
