A message to our fans:

General Fanager is shutting down.

It is with sadness that we close the doors to this incredibly fun passion project. We launched General Fanager in May of 2015. Along the way, we have come to serve and get to know an incredible base of users that we will greatly miss.

For anyone that ever helped with the site, from those that pitched in on busy days, to those that reported site errors, or helped track down details, or those that promoted our work, or just simply those that routinely typed generalfanager.com into their address bar: Thank you.

Tom Poraszka, founder of NHL salary-cap site @generalfanager, hired as Las Vegas hockey operations analyst.

Good thing fans have no interest in cap-info sites, right Gary?

Ah well, NHL numbers it is.

I have so many things to blame on the whatever-hawks.

One of the most amazing and maybe overlooked things about the Internet is that it has opened up so many unorthodox career paths.  How many intelligent, enterprising fan sites have led to paid gigs in the NHL?  It's like the fans are storming the fortress of the Complacent Old Boys Network and every once in awhile one of them actually scales the wall and penetrates the inner sanctum.

Just saw this after I posted:

That's true and everything, and has been true in other sports for a while, but it remains to be seen how much of an impact these guys are really having. After what happened in Montreal and with Dellow in Edmonton you wonder if it's just teams following a trend as opposed to genuinely broadening their horizons.

Yep, no interest in this stuff whatsoever.  Teams also have no interest.  That is why they keep hiring these guys, just to put these worthless sites out of their misery.

I guess you can't expect salary information from a league that can't be bothered to provide preseason stats on their official website.

They're probably there we just can't find them.
