George Michael, the pop icon that left many a generation dancing in their seats, passed away yesterday at 53. The official cause of death was heart failure (cardiac arrest).
Who can forget those '80's pop music performers, namely Andrew Ridgeley along with Michael, who formed the group Wham! With such hits as "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go", "Club Tropicana", and a host of other songs. Wham! Was in fact, the first music group to play in a communist country, that being China, back in those days.
George Michael struck out on some solo singles/albums with the best-selling "Careless Whispers" in the later years, and eventually changed his repertoire which included the 'controversial' hit/video "I Want Your Sex", which at the time, seemed a bit jarring with references to sex, from his album "Faith".
Michael had several run-ins with the law and had an addiction to heroin. He battled health problems as well as personal ones. He was a champion of gay and same-sex rights as he came out of the closet to reveal his sexuality.
A multi-talented performer, singer, songwriter, musician. Rest In Peace, George, and thank you for entertaining an entire generation or two that grew up on your music.
