Gudbranson will get $4.4M next season, $4.6M the season after that and $3M in the third and final year of the deal, for an AAV of $4M. This contract does NOT include a NTC of any kind.

Leafs dodge a slow moving bullet.

I have my phone set-up to receive Sportsnet alerts in the case of big news.

After this one, I feel like I want my money back.

Giving a $4mil AAV to your 3rd pairing defenceman has literally never back-fired in the history of the NHL.

But what if you give him 4.5??  :D

Sorry, I just realized I made a small typo in this post. I misspelled "always". My bad.

I'm curious about the stats company that has been selling the block of data that makes teams chase the Alzners, Russells, Girardis, and Gudbransons of the hockey pool. Every offseason, we seem to have a spate of $4M multi-year deals for objectively not-good defensive-only defenders. I know the Leafs see something very similar in Zaitsev, but for that case I can at least see the physical tools and skills that might be useful.

(Can't forget Polak, but it's not like we overpaid him. This time.)
