Because of course it is.

Hossa has 3 years left on his contract with a $5.275mil AAV. Each of those years only pay him $1mil though because he obviously never intended to play them.

Other cap space deals the Coyotes have made in the past few years:

I sure hope Hossa can recover from his debilitating skin condition in time for the 2020-2021 season.

Good thing for Chicago that they hit on the DeBrincat pick, that roster is a little thin.

Yes, but they have him now so there's no need to ever consider the alternative.

Their roster really is fugly. Once Hinostroza is traded they'll be left with 7 NHL forwards. That's it.  It sounds like there's other pieces coming back to them here but still.

And then there's the fact that their defence might be even more of a mess.

Well, you figure years of a crummy roster is a pretty reasonable punishment for the crime of putting together a really good roster and winning so much. That sort of thing really can't be tolerated.

Go bug that guy in the other thread.  In this thread, I'm going to try to figure out how to strip out some valuable assets from the Chicago roster, for basically nothing, in some very unrealistic trade scenarios.

I've stumbled upon the flaw in your plan.

It's funny to think that the organization would have probably been 100% better off if they fired Bowman the day after he led them to their 3rd Stanley Cup in 6 years.

Haha they brought back Kruger, that'll fix things.

On the other hand though I genuinely don't understand why the Coyotes do this trade.

The Blackhawks have released the following statement on Hossa:

"Today is another example of the leadership Marian has displayed as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks organization. When we approached him to discuss the idea of him waiving his no-move clause to allow us to make this move, it became clear this was a difficult thing for him to consider. After the success he has had in a Blackhawks jersey, the friends he has made throughout the organization and the fact his heart will always be in Chicago, the thought of disassociating in any way from the team he has come to love was not something he really wanted to give any thought to at all. But, as the consummate team player, he did what he has always done. He did what the team needed him to do in order to succeed.

Yes I'm sure this was a real gut-wrenching decision for Hossa to make. I can't wait for his Players Tribune article about it.

Bowman loves boomerangs.

Is that ex-Marlies captain Andrew 'Soupy' Campbell I spy in that list?

I'm always delighted with the creativity of hockey nicknames...so clever.

Pretty sure every Campbell that ever played on a hockey team was nicknamed Soup.

I'd personally try to get everyone to call him Warhol.
