Injuries Around the League

Bruins defenceman Dennis Seidenberg will be out for 8 weeks after undergoing back surgery.  He's 34 years old and his play has been slipping anyway, but this is a big blow to a Bruins defence that was already in need of an upgrade.

That leaves Boston's defence looking a little something like this:

Chara-Trotman
Krug-McQuaid
Irwin-K. Miller
Morrow-C. Miller

That's a far cry from when they had Chara, Boychuk, Ference, Seidenberg, and Hamilton.

That might be worse than the Leafs and that's saying something.

Wow, yeah that probably is worse than the Leafs.

Polak for their 1st sounds about right you know.

I think we can squeeze Robidas into that deal, judging by the way the Bruins are operating these days.

Truth be told we'd probably have better luck with a Bergeron for Pittsburgh 1st this year type of deal.

That way Boston could grab another player off the board at the draft who could come in an fail their fitness tests.

They'd probably eat a significant portion of Bergeron's salary too.

;D

Are they angling for a Boston Matthews scenario?

Chara leaves game with upper-body injury

He'll probably be okay for the opener unless he got Pillar'd.

I wonder if they'll put a rod in to protect him against reinjuring it.

I know it's most common with the tibia, but it's becoming more common with the fibula as I understand it, especially when they have a significant chance of reinjury.

Only six week recovery? That seems short.

For that injury it's usually re-assessed at six weeks, I'm sure they'll likely have him doing all manner of things to speed the recovery, though.

Probably massive doses of supplements as well as hyperbaric chamber time.

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today defenseman Duncan Keith underwent successful surgery to repair a right knee meniscal tear. The procedure was performed at Northwestern Memorial Hospital by Blackhawks Head Team Physician Dr. Michael Terry.

?Duncan underwent successful surgery today to repair his right knee meniscal tear,? Terry said. ?The surgery was successful and we expect him to return to full hockey activities in approximately 4-6 weeks.?

That's a big loss for them. They're 3-3 so far this season. Their defence now probably looks something like this:

Hjalmarsson-Seabrook
Daley-van Riemsdyk
Svedberg-Rundblad

Evander Kane out 4-6 weeks with a left MCL injury.

He was off to a slow start anyway, but man Buffalo can't catch a break. Kane, Bogosian, and Lehner all out with injuries now.

None of whom they should be surprised about. The specific injuries, maybe. The fact that they're injured? Not so much. Maybe a bit of a surprise with Lehner, but a goalie coming off a major concussion? You should expect he'll miss some time.
