Isles acquire rights to Halak

Islanders have until June 1st to sign Halak in order to keep and select their 1st rounder (5th pick).

The Islanders need to decide whether Buffalo gets their pick (from theThomas Vanek trade)) either this year or next.  The wise thing to do would be for Isles GM Snow to sign Halak and keep the pick which could be anyon of Michael Dal Colle,  Leon Draisatl, Hadyn Fleury or whomever.

Snow could in theory bypass this year's pick and wait for to 2015 draft, when
the Islanders would have a chance to choose a McDavid or Eichel.  The probk with that is Snow would be gambling on the idea that the Islanders will finish with the same points and position as past season'

No Halak signing means Buffalo gets the Isles fifth.
Signing Halak means the Islanders get to select.
Better to go with the latter choice.

Well, they just got a whole lot better.

Yup.  Goaltending was definitely their Achilles Heel.

Good for them.  They finally solved their goaltending puzzle.

Halak should provide stability, something that was lacking in that position for the Isles.

Way to go, Snow!
