Joe Bowen off TV only radio?

I know this is Simmons but I hope not.

About 3/4 of the way down.

Absolutely love Joe Bowen. Terrific guy who I've had the pleasure of meeting a couple of times. I've always enjoyed his play by play. Well, if he's on radio, I can always mute the tv and follow along that way.

I know I certainly won't miss him cracking up over his own terrible jokes.

That never bothered me at all. I usually laughed at his laughing. He knows when it's appropriate (team is crappy - that's why he seems to joke so much lately) and knows when to move it up several notches.

Seconding, and seconding again.  He's awful.  And he can take "Henny" and "Millsy" with him.

The guy I miss is Dennis Beyak.

I like him, he's cheesy at times and a distraction at others, but I enjoy the passion he has for the team.

His call against the Canes when Sundin tied it was unbelievably good.

It all depends on who he gets replaced with. Bowen's not the greatest or anything but at least he's distinctive and marks the difference between looser regional broadcasts and the buttoned down TSN stuff. If it's just so that another neutral Hughson-esque robot can call games it'd be terrible.

I find him amateurish.  When I was 12 that was fine but now it's just annoying.
My question is how would you like the game called and who's an example of this?

At least I know Bowen won't be bashing the Leafs or halfheartedly cover up any team biases *cough Hughson.

I'd like the game called intelligently.  I don't mind Hughson at all.  I can't really stand any of the regional, homer announcers.  Sportsnet is saying Paul Romanuk, Bob Cole and Dave Randorf, along with Hughson, are the other commentators - as long as Bob Cole is coherent, all of those are far better IMO.

When Hughson calls games, it sounds like a video game.

Exactly. I just don't want to live in a world of interchangeable, flavourless announcers who could just as easily be calling minor league baseball or a track meet or anything else. I almost don't care what an announcer does to set them apart, just as long as they do something. Otherwise it's just a world full of strip malls and Home Depots.

I think some regional announcers run into problems with objectivity but objectivity isn't the same thing as neutrality. I honestly don't know if Hughson likes hockey.

Way to smeagol that one into the conversation.

Wait wasn't he the voice for one of the last NHL games?. Anyways it is a shame the Joe Bowen is coming off TV. I guess as we get older, the younger folk want things to change. Be honest I was happy with him. BTW IMO Hughson sucks.

Not a huge Bowen fan but if this means more Hughson then I'm happy to join in on some sort of protest to get Joe back. So are we making signs and marching on Rogers HQ, or....?

It's Bob Cole #1 for me and Chris Cuthbert is #2.
