Jokinen to the peg

They're fairly deep at the center position now... I wonder what it would take to pry Little away.

Good deal for the Jets.  Not too long, and not too expensive.

I don't think they're willing to give away their future, especially with Kane up in the air also.

It's not a bad deal but not a great one. I think Jokinen is more a 50-55 point a year guy instead of a 60-65 point guy and that's a little steep for that kind of production.

They'd still have a nice future piece at the center position in Scheifele who likely makes the team this year... Jokinen, Antropov... They're in good shape.

It might seem steep, but Grabovski is getting $5.5M per and he's never even hit 60 points.

Jokinen got 61 last year (helped by Iginla??) so I think $4.5M is a good price.

You obviously didn't see him play in Calgary :D There is a reason they don't want him back

It is a Connolly-style stopgap contract until their younger guys mature a bit more or somebody else becomes available.  It isn't one of those years where you can ask yourself:  Now, what kind of UFA center does my team really need?

I'd rather have Jokinen than Connolly.
Well when you put it that way... Of course Calgary signed him to an ugly contract that he never lived up to, traded him to NY and lost Prust in that deal that they really missed, resigned him to a better contract in which he did fairly well until they needed his production at the end of the year and he disappeared. so he has a half decent season and once again gets way overpaid, too bad  it wasn't the Flamers again they deserve each other.

I agree with the grabovski parallel.  However, I was in the minority for thinking that 5.5 million is too much for a 2nd line center.

Grabovski is also not 34 years old, and his underlying possession numbers are very good.

I was just using it as a justification for the $4.5M for Jokinen. I think $5.5M might be a touch high, but Grabovski's more of a higher-end 2nd centre.

Well, yeah, the "helped by Iginla" thing isn't a small part of it. As pointed out, Jokinen is in his mid 30's and almost certainly on the decline.

I think Grabo's deal is one that is banking on him improving into being that sort of 65-70 point centre. If he stays where he is or declines I'm pretty sure it will be seen as being on the highside.
