Well, I guess they like him.

Has a higher PPG than Kadri and gets paid about the same, probably one of those players you value slightly higher internally just because you get to see them so often and see the added value they bring.

Maybe I'm just missing something but Kadri outscored him last season and has a higher PPG in the last 3 seasons and in their careers. Killorn's most frequent linemate is also consistently Stamkos.

I don't think the deal is bad or anything really, but I kinda figured that Killorn would have been someone Tampa looked at first when it came to cap causalities. They still have Kucherov to sign this offseason and Johnson/Palat next offseason. A defensively responsible winger who can score 40 points playing alongside Steven Stamkos seems somewhat replaceable when push comes to shove.

I guess we'll see what they do though. Unless they can move Callahan or Filppula (both have NMCs) they might actually be forced to expose Killorn in the expansion draft next summer. Stamkos, Callahan, Filppula, Johnson, Kucherov, Palat, and Drouin would probably be their 7 forwards to protect.

Was just about to say this.  Kadri is younger and over the last 3 years he has outscored Killorn in both points and PPG.
It's not a bad deal but 7 years will be harder to move than 3 or 4 and while Tampa has done a fantastic job of reasonable contracts this just seems like less of a good buy with the players that are coming up for renew.

Yeah, I wouldn't argue with you if you told me Kadri was better, I probably agree. I also looked at my math again and for some reason had Killorn at .607 instead of .507.

That'll teach me to operate a calculator while medicated.

This is kind of a funny thing about the NHL marketplace too. Teams seem to try and fight tooth and claw in order to get their superstar players to give them some kind of hometown or Stanley Cup discount and we sometimes see players decide to take less money in order to keep their teams competitive. Stamkos and Hedman probably could have gotten an extra $2mil each on their AAV in Tampa Bay. And yet they had no problem giving a mid-level forward a 7-year deal at basically marketplace value.

I get that not every Lightning player is going to take a 20% discount on their contracts going forward, it's just funny to see that type of mentality of star players being forced to take less so lesser players can get what they're worth.
