But whaaaat?
bustaheims said:It's actually not that bad. $250K a year until the 2024/2025 season - mainly because he barely played under the contract.
Omallley said:That's definitely a loss for Jersey, especially considering what they gave up to trade for him, and again for the cap circumvention penalty for trying to sign him to the first couple contracts. The cap benefit recapture penalty actually isn't too bad in this case - only 250K a year, although that's until 2025. (Edit: Busta beats me to it)
The toughest part though is certainly losing one of the best offensive players in the league...

I think the worst part for them is that they won't have a 1st round pick in 2014 because of the penalties for the original contract and the fact that they missed the deadline to sacrifice the pick in last year's draft. They're going to be a bad team this year, so, they're losing a really good pick.

...that's what I was eluding to about the cap circumvention penalty (1st plus what...3M cash?). Unless Schneider stands on his head, you're spot on - I can't imagine they're going to do much. (Heck, even then, where's the offense coming from?).
Pretty amazing he's leaving 56M on the table for the next 5 years. I guess there's more than money to the decision.
