Lots of free agents, but I put a mix of the top guys there. Didn't put any goalies on the list, but I suppose if you only have a goalie in mind, you could pick "other".

As mentioned ad naseum (by me) in other threads, Ryan O'Reilly.

I'd love to hear the announcers "O'Reilly to Rielly...Rielly back to O'Reilly...O'Reilly shoots scores!"

@TSNBobMcKenzie: ANA not qualifying Mathieu Perreault. Ducks have, however, given him contract offer they deem to be substantial. He's UFA unless he accepts.

I kind of like his game in a bottom 6 role. If Anaheim doesn't sign him, I'd consider him for the Leafs.

There are 8-10 teams interested in UFA David Legwand. Likes of NYI, FLA, BUFF, TOR. #TSN

Bolland back-up plan?

If he wants big money or term, let's hope they miss out on both.

I wouldn't think he'd be anywhere near Bolland's contract alleged demands but I guess you never know.

The sad thing is that Grabovski (imo) will probably be cheaper and is a better option than both. Higher potential offensive output and much more proficient on the draw than either Bolland or Legwand.

It's Kypreos... but do we suppose he doesn't at least talk to players? That we should discount what he thinks players think about when UFAs? Maybe.

All the same, something to temper expectations heading into free agency:

Hope_Smoke ‏@Hope_Smoke  2h
Kypreos "to go full circle with the Leafs. Players need to factor in many things."

Hope_Smoke ‏@Hope_Smoke  2h
Kypreos "there's nothing really attractive about the Leafs. Not just for Cammalleri [the example they were using] but many."

Hope_Smoke ‏@Hope_Smoke  2h
Kypreos "the Leafs are in transition right now and Shanahan is feeling it"

Hope_Smoke ‏@Hope_Smoke  2h
Kypreos "I don't want to squash anyone's hope & it's early in the Shanahan era so you have to give it time to breath..."

Hope_Smoke ‏@Hope_Smoke  2h
Kypreos "...but there are players questioning where this Leafs team is headed"

At the end of the day, that might not be the worst thing the Leafs could do.  Just don't sign anybody.  Build from within and go from there.

Leafs have been talking about the need to upgrade at centre ever since Mats left. Last year, they were supposed to help by adding Bolland, now he's in limbo and the Leafs don't seem to be seriously linked to any of the top centres available, probably because the top centres would all sooner play for a contender. The money is probably best invested in the back end and some solid wingers. If Kadri and Holland can take another step forward, we are probably no worse off down the middle than last year when Bolland missed most of it anyway. If we can land a genuine top four D-Man and Rielly can make the next step to top four, Polak could be a solid number 5 guy and let the rookies battle it out for the other d-spots. Franson probably decent trade bait. We need another top six winger to go with Kadri the Lupul. I wouldn't mind Raymond with Holland and Clarkson.

I'd be quite happy if the Leafs can't sign anyone to big money, long-term deals this summer.

Me too.

Carlyle is on record saying "he doesn't know why the leafs failed last year."  Yet he was kept on by the GM and the GM's boss.  Why would anyone trust leadership to make long-term decisions in such a circumstance?

I will applaud deals that sacrifice the "now" for the "future" and that is about it.

I'm fine with the idea that a lot of players aren't interested in coming here. The reality is that the Leafs aren't a contender and realistically nobody who is on the FA market is going to make them one. Even if the Leafs landed the best UFA's to reasonable deals they still wouldn't be legitimate contenders so wading into the folly of the first day of free agency seems pretty pointless.

If they want to push towards another playoff berth... I think they can just as easily do that sorting through the remainder bin.

As per Kypreos; Dave Bolland expected to sign 6/7 year deal with FLA
Was just on the radio in TOR. Said he expects Dave Bolland to sign a 6 or 7 year deal with the Florida Panthers, worth north of 5M a season.

Dreger reported earlier that the Leafs wouldn't go over 5 years, or 25 million

5 million are you kidding me? Not worth anywhere near that...see you have fun in Florida

Hopefully this is a case where the Leafs' only being 80% stupid will save their own bacon.
