Leafs Acquire Kalinin from NJ for Loov

Seems like it's strictly a Marlies move. They had a lot of left-handed defenceman, and were pretty weak down the middle. This balances things out a little.

Although he's never really been a big point producer anywhere, even in the KHL. So I'm not sure if he'll really fill a top-6 role and that's what they need.

That's funny. I just looked at his numbers and assumed he was a defenseman.

I actually instinctively assumed he was a right-handed defenceman too at first.

As did I...then found out I was thinking of Dmitri Kalinin (who's currently in the KHL, actually).

So, are we now at 48 contracts?

+1 - 1 = 0 net change.

Darn, I liked Loov.  I guess Lou is familiar with Kalinin though and must like him.

Kalinin is a Ray Shero pick up, if I recall correctly, but Lou would've definitely had a firsthand look.

Are you allowed to exposed exempt players in the expansion draft if you choose to?

This guy meets the 40/70 rule.

I don't think we can, but he'd basically be a drop in replacement if Martin or Komarov are exposed&drafted/injured right? NHL capable centre/left wing defense-only grinder.

Hasn't he been playing for NJ all season? Maybe a Ben Smith replacement?

41.4% on the draw this season. Left handed shot. So doesn't seem to fit what Babs is looking for there.

I hope Loov gets his chance finally, and becomes a great player. I always wish the very best for our prospects even if it didn't work out with the Loafs
