jonasTSN1050: Leafs sign Mark Arcobello to one-year deal.

FriedgeHNIC: Arcobello in TOR, 1 year, $1.1M

Another decent role player that should be able to return a mid round pick at the deadline.

OK...I hope these deals work out as well as Santorelli's and Winnik's.

Inevitably not all of them will...I think Santorelli and Winnik's return was probably on the high end of what you could hope to recoup, but the risk in these moves is pretty much non existent; especially for a team like the Leafs right now. Even adding a 3rd or 4th at the deadline would be a positive move. And in the worse case if they do so terribly that no one is willing to give anything for them, they're gone next season anyway. I really love these types of signings and the Leafs have done really well these past two offseasons with them.

Does Arizona even have enough players to field a team this year?

If you check out their roster, I think you won't be surprised to see them in last place this year.

Speaking of that, the only thing the last place team is assured of in the new lottery rules for the 2016 draft is the 4th overall pick, as opposed to 2nd overall (Buffalo) this past draft.

Yeah, that's the honest saving grace.  Unless the Leafs find a way to trade away JVR, Lupul and Phaneuf I can't see how the Leafs are going to compete with the Coyotes.  They have a lineup designed to win 15-20 games at best.  And when the top pick is from Scottsdale Arizona you know the league would love nothing more than to have him get drafted by the Coyotes (assuming they aren't being moved to Vegas).

I don't see the Coyotes roster as presently any worse than the Leafs???  goaltending is probably a wash unless Smith regains form from a few years ago.  Defence is also close to a wash and neither team has a lot of firepower.

This makes me giggle.  He's never put the sweater on before and we're all trying to figure out what sort of pick he'll return.  I think the Leafs should forgo putting names on the backs of their jerseys.  Just put a price tag on there instead for opposing GMs:  'high 3rd', 'mid-round second'.

;D

Arcobello always seemed like a guy who put up pretty decent numbers in limited minutes. Nice little Bozak replacement hopefully.

Awesome idea. Just for the first two seasons of the rebuild. Any one with a 3 year contract or more at that point gets their name on their jersey.

I was just saying that the problem with Clarkson was that his hit totals were a little low.

True enough.  He played with the same passion as Kessel.  But Arcobello isn't a big guy like Clarkson.  He's 5'8", and seeing that he was throwing hits, kind of shows what this little guy is willing to do to make it.  It's the fight in the dog, not the dog in the fight.

I watched a few of his games last year and I was reasonably impressed, he's no star but like all fringers he gives it his all.
