Andersen or Campbell?

So far, responses on here favor Campbell.  I don't feel strongly about it, but I do think this is a near-perfect opportunity to get Andersen in there for a game.  If we had lost tonight (and Campbell had played well) then the decision would be fairly agonizing.  But up 2-1?  I see a strong argument that, while they have to run the risk of wearing out their goalie, we don't need to.  It's not like Andersen is a perennial backup.  And if he picked up a win it would be huge.

I think Campbell's been playing good, but not sure it's good enough to force the coaching staff to start him back-to-back over another qualified NHL starting goalie. So if Andersen doesn't start it says quite a bit about how much faith the team has in him right now. I think he'll start though.

The Byron goal in game one was just bad.  You want to see him stop Suzuki tonight but Nick wired a good, if not great, shot.  Otherwise I think Campbell has been really, really solid ... against a low-firepower team.  So I agree with you, the decision says a lot about what the coach thinks about Andersen's readiness.  Relatedly, if they do start him it sends a signal that hey, we're not afraid to run our other guy out against you.

If Campbell can go, he goes. It's about putting your foot on their neck right now and Jack is doing just fine.

If the third period last night had been as quiet as the first couple I think you'd have rolled Campbell back out no bother. With it being quite noisy and dangerous maybe that tips your hand the other way. In saying that he was excellent in that third period so...

I think this is one where the right answer depends on the result and the coaches can't really win. Play Andersen and win, right choice, play him and lose should have played Campbell. And vice versa.

I know there might come a time where Andersen needs to play but I just didn?t see enough from him in his limited on ice opportunities or be comfortable handing him the keys to a playoff game.

Campbell doesn?t guarantee a win but he has given up 4 goals in 3 games so far.  I know even if we lose tonight that the Leafs are still going to be viewed as the favourite but I would rather try and shut the series down here

Seeing as Jack had a couple injuries you do have to worry a bit...

Montreal has to run Price, because he is playing Vezina great and they are still losing (and will again tonight).

Leafs do not need to run Campbell tonight, he has been real solid, that 3rd period performance was great (and lucky - 1 post, 1 missed open net by Suzuki).

But as Arn said, there is no right answer to the goalie tonight. (I would pick Andersen to start).

As Winnipeg is resting already I would like that they could finish this thursday.

Also I'm expecting a tom more from Nash, Thorton and Simmonds.

I think I'd lean towards starting Andersen. They're up a game, on back-to-backs. Gives Campbell a rest and gives Andersen some playing time. Assuming this is a long playoff run, having two goalies ready to go is a good thing to have.

;D
The top two thirds of that list (other than Nylander) all play top-line matchups, but also significantly more minutes. That said, there aren't really any other secondary offense-drivers showing up on this list (Kyle Connor is closest in utilization I think).

I'm very pleased Willy is putting his stamp more evidently on the team and public perception from the proletariat who normally only watch the really skewed intermission iso bashings.

He's a lazy overconfident bum who's trashing Sandin's future with his toxic narcissism.

Just restating the baseline here.

If the Leafs were up 3-0, I might lean towards Andersen, but, at 2-1, I'd stick with Campbell. Keep a relatively short leash on him, but he gets the nod.

For me it just feels like every time you shorten the season.
2-2 would make it a best of three...that just increases the potential to get "goalied".  I think he got the practice day off on Sunday precisely to have him ready to go for Game 4.
