Game Notes

TOR
-Andersen (3-2-0, 2.80 GAA, .898 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
-Andersen's back-up is still unknown at this point. Campbell did not take part in Monday's practice and it seems likely Hutchinson dresses to give him the night off after he got a little banged up at the end of Sunday's game
-Spezza is also expected to have the night off as the Leafs look to manage the minutes for the 37-year old. I plugged Brooks in to replace him but that's not confirmed. It's also possible that Joey Anderson or Travis Boyd make their Leafs debut in his spot

CGY
-Markstrom (2-1-1, 2.26 GAA, .928 Sv%) will likely start for the Flames
-Matthew Tkachuk might be saying hello to Simmonds or Muzzin or Bogosian in this one

We've barely started the season and we've already started racking up injuries. This is why we can't worry too much about guys not playing. They'll get their chance.

I like that we have been rotating in guys from the taxi squad to get them some ice-time (even if very limited).  Injuries are inevitable and if we have these guys just doing practice work for 3 months they are going to have a hard time being up to game speed.  Playing a game once every 2 weeks doesn't mean anything compared to every day play but it's way better than nothing.

9pm games I can live with here and there. It's the 10pm, or even worse 10:30pm games that I usually ignore.

We only have 7 games (including tonight) that start at 9PM or later this year.
Given that we play Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg all in other timezones I can live with 49 of 56 games starting between 7-8PM

Living in Alberta I used to hate 7pm EST starts as it would be 5pm out here, and I'd sill be at the office.

One of the few benefits of COVID is that working from home is that I never miss puck drop

I think this roster configuration would put the Leafs over the cap, so the likely explanation is that Hutchinson was recalled on an emergency basis instead of a regular call-up. Capfriendly with an explanation here (in regards to the Capitals doing it with Craig Anderson):

All the new guys going in at once  8)

It'll be nice to try out a new-look 4th line, I'm assuming it'll be Engvall-Boyd-Anderson or maybe Engvall in the middle. That's got some potential and our previous 4th lines have been pretty underwhelming so far.

The ideal scenario is that Anderson has such a showing that he feels safe enough to play alongside Mikheyev-Kerfoot, which allows us to roll Hyman in the top 6.

Anderson needs to play well but also not well enough that he gets on Seattle's radar. It'll be a difficult balancing act.

Aren't we exposing Rielly?  8)

Only gave up 2 goals or less in 4 out of 5 games (the other game was 3 goals)! Who are these guys? With this new defensive structure, I am optimistic for a change. Keeping the GA/GP low is a reason to believe in this group.
