Game Notes

TOR
?McElhinney (2-1-0, 3.05 GAA, .910 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Back to back situation, and while the Leafs usually start Andersen in the first game we play at home against the Capitals tomorrow night, so I'm going to guess Andersen gets the start in that one instead
?The Leafs made some changes at practice yesterday, most notably bumping Matt Martin out of the line-up in favour of Leivo. It's expected Martin will be a healthy scratch for the first time as a Leaf

CAR
?Scott Darling (6-5-4, 2.69 GAA, .900 Sv%) will likely start for the Hurricanes
?After a stretch where they went 5-1-1, Carolina is coming off their worst loss of the season: a 6-1 beating by the Rangers. The game saw Scott Darling give up a goal where a Ranger player just lobbed it on net from 90 feet away and Darling failed to properly catch it
?Teravainen and Aho will be the Hurricane players to watch tonight: Teravainen has 11 points in his last 5 games while Aho has 10 in his last 5
?Victor Rask, who is in year 2 of a 6 year deal that carries a $4mil AAV, is in the dog house. He's pointless in his last 7 games and after a 2-point season debut he has just 3 points in his last 17 games. He's been a healthy scratch in Carolina's past 2 games but might return to the line-up here
Injuries

?Nathan Horton - Back - Out indefinitely
?Joffrey Lupul - Actually Injured - Out indefinitely
Code:

?Lee Stempniak - Upper Body - Injured Reserve

I thought there'd be more champagne popping around here with this news.

I actually think Martin has played pretty well this year, and given he plays 8 minutes a game, a 25 point pace is pretty damn decent.

Good luck to Leivo.

Babcock can probably justify Martin being in the lineup when the team is scoring 4-5 goals a night but after scoring two goals against Florida and the Coyotes it probably becomes a harder sell.

Prays for Leivo to get a hattrick and see if Babcock lets Martin back in the lineup for tomorrow night.

His one 3-point game, which I mean let's face was a fluke and might never happen again in his career, is really skewing things though. Take that out and he's on pace to score 15 points, which is exactly his career average.

That's fair.  They really need to get Nylander going, with only 1 point in his last 5 games.

Mark Masters just said that Andersen and Ward start tonight.

Meaning McBackup likely gets Ovi and the Caps. Guess Babs really wants the two points here and is gonna cross his fingers for tomorrow.

Not sure who I would start tonight.  Hurricanes seem to have the Leafs number.  Caps are more of a 50/50 game.

His initials are M and M.  How can he be bad?

Well, he does spell his first name the wrong way. I've discussed this with him on a few occasions, but he seems unwilling to change.

Stop pretending that you aren't Mark Masters. We know that you're Mark Masters.

Hyman-Matthews-Marner - That's a first line on just about any team
Komarov-Kadri-Soshnikov - That's a checking 2nd line
JVR-Bozak-Nylander - That's a scoring 2nd line
Leivo-Marleau-Brown - That's a checking 2nd/3rd line

And if we're chasing, it'll quickly collapse to:
Hyman - Matthews - Marner
Marleau - Kadri - Brown
JvR - Bozak - Nylander

Again, I'm not sure why we didn't do this from the beginning of the season (or even last season... to be Fehr, Marleau >>>> Holland, but if he wasn't dragging Martin, Soshnikov/Leivo - Holland - Brown wouldn't have been too shabby).

Martin's played relatively well this season, compared to last, but he's still several steps back of the Kapanen, Soshnikov, Leivo, Leipsic (RIP) group, and they're all on the front of their development curves and collectively cheaper than him.

That's not possible. He and I have been in the same room at the same time, and people have seen both of us.

Also, I spell my name with a C. Hence, the disagreement.

This already happens though, right?

Yep

If you?re rolling 4 top-6 lines in waves, how often are you chasing?
