Game Notes

TOR
?Andersen (20-10-1, 2.55 GAA, .922 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?The Leafs juggled around their forward lines a bit at practice on Wednesday. Hyman, Matthews, and Nylander were reunited while Johnsson went over to the Tavares-Marner line
?You probably haven't heard, but the Leafs are in a small slump right now. They're 2-5 in their last 7 games
?Matthews has 1 goals in his past 10 games. Nylander has 1 in 17 games this season. Kadri has 1 in his last 18 games. Marleau has 0 in his last 9. Those 4 sure would like to start scoring again soon

TB
?Vasilevskiy (19-5-2, 2.46 GAA, .925 Sv%) will likely start for the Lightning
?The Lightning are on pace for 129 points this season. The most amount of points a cap-era team has achieved is 124 by the 05-06 Red Wings. So yeah they're alright I guess
?Kucherov leads the league in scoring with 75 points in 47 games, which puts him on pace for 130 points. The most amount of points a cap-era player has scored is 125 by Joe Thornton in 05-06. So again, not bad
?Kucherov is actually scoring just under 2 points per game since the middle of November. He has 57 points in his last 29 games. I'm told that's good
?Point has 42 points in his last 29 games while Stamkos has 38 points in that same stretch
?Cedric Paquette is pointless in his last 12 games though. Yes, I literally had to go all the way down to their 4C to find someone who was struggling
Injuries

?Tyler Ennis - Ankle - Injured Reserve
?Leafs fans - Sanity - Questionable Thursday

Haha sanity.

I don't think anybody gets in TBL's way this year.  That is an amazing record.  And a to-die-for blueline.

With that record it's certainly hard to imagine them losing in the playoffs, but I'm sure crazier things have happened. If they really do beat that Detroit record it'll almost be a shame to see them lose in the playoffs. Unless of course it's the Leafs that beat them obviously.

That's why you play the games.  I remember long ago the Blues won the presidents trophy with something like 115 points and a buddy of mine said "nobody is beating the Blues this year!" and then they got bounced in round 1 by the 8th seed.  It can happen.

That to-die for blueline are 12th in the league for GAA, 7th in sv%. Clearly their offence is what's making that team win most nights. The Leafs with their crappy core are 6th in GAA, 5th in sv%.

It won't be a shame regardless of who they lose to.

I'm all for the top seed losing. Every year. Unless the top seed is the Leafs. And it's been a while since that happened...sooooo....

so, fun fact: in the Cap era, the President's Trophy winner has only won the cup on 2 occasions - Detroit in '08 and Chicago in '13. They've lost in the Final once (Vancouver in '11). On 4 occasions, they've been bounced in the opening round.

Uh huh.

I'd swap our d for theirs every day of the week and twice on Sunday.  How about you?

Hey now...Stats say the Leafs are better defensively and stats don't lie. Me, my eye stat tells me absolutely I'd swap them but I'd prefer Calgary's or Winnipeg's who I think are better then T-Bays. Leafs def need help on D.

Not that it really matters, but where were those stats from? Naturalstattrick has Tampa as having the 8th best goals against rate in the league, Leafs 9th best. And they have Tampa as the 7th best Sv%, Leafs 8th best.

Regardless though, even using your numbers those stats don't say that the Leafs are better defensively. The Leafs allow the 3rd most amount of 5-on-5 shot attempts against. Tampa has the 8th lowest amount of shot attempts against. Those are a better indication of their "defensive" ability.

Here's the link...You are right tho, NHL.com has it listed as you do..Looks like the Fox link does it based on total minutes where others base it on games, whether it goes in OT or not.

https://www.foxsports.com/nhl/team-stats?season=2018&category=SCORING&group=1&time=0&pos=0&team=1&page=1

And just going by stats, yes they are. Leafs give up .1 more of a shot per game and one would think 5 v 5 shots would be less dangerous then 5 v 4. They may appear better on paper but......

So... you'd give them back on Sunday? I'm officially placing your sanity on injured reserve.

GO LEAFS GO!

We're changing things up tonight.  My eldest daughter and me have only ever worn our Matthews jerseys together for a game once and it was a Leafs win.  Tonight will be twice.
