Line-up Notes

?Bernier will likely start for Toronto
?Ashton, Holland, and Smith are all confirmed to be out
?McKegg was sent down and replaced by Smithson
?Clarkson appears ready to return to the line-up although somebody will either have to be placed on the IR or sent to the Marlies to make room for him on the roster
?McLaren and Bodie both practiced on the 4th line so it's difficult to say who is in for sure, although Bodie could be the guy going down to make room for Clarkson
?JVR missed practice with the flu and will be a game-time decision, if he can't go expect Ranger to draw in as the 7th defenceman since the Leafs might not have any spare forwards

Carlyle would pick McLaren's 58 seconds of ice time over Bodie's regular shift on the 3rd line ??  :o

Of course he would.  Haven't you paid attention to the last 2 years?

Please don't dress McClaren and Orr, it's an embarrassment.  That Carlye, he sure loves him some players who can't skate, can't handle the puck and can't be trusted in any true hockey sense.  It makes zero sense to continue to play either of them.  In the NHL today there is no need to dress a player who only is looking to fight.

It's the intimidation factor. It can work in certain scenarios and we've seen it play out as such, but you're basically right in saying nine times out of 10 it probably doesn't make a difference.

When have we seen it play out as such?

Well it stops our goalies from being run, or our stars being cheap-shoted and makes sure these guys pay for because when it happens, by the end of the game that transgressor.....oh wait......

Bodie has been playing better than anyone in that bottom six, and actually putting in useful shutdown minutes. It's pretty gross that he and Ashton have to sit while the rest of the slugs take up spots in the line up. It makes no sense.  This is a Florida team that can get run over easily with skill and speed and Randy wants to give them a chance by playing our junk.

Edit: Thinking it over, I'm going to guess that Bodie makes it into the line-up over McLaren.

McLaren has been scratched in 40% of the games he's been "healthy" for this season. I also wouldn't be surprised if he was actually fit to play in some of the 8 games he was on IR for as well but was kept out. He's been a healthy scratch on a regular basis.

If he is in the line up tonight, to me, it seems more like a Nonis/front office decision than a Carlyle/coaching staff one since Nonis would be the one deciding to demote Bodie. If Bodie is the one sent down to make room to activate Clarkson and Holland, Ashton and Smith aren't fit to play, does Carlyle have another option?

Practice lines have McLaren-Smithson-Orr as the 4th line. JVR and Clarkson both look like they're in.

No mention of who is going down to make room for Clarkson, which I find odd.
