Game Notes

TOR
?Andersen (24-11-6, 2.93 GAA, .908 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Toronto currently still has a 2-point lead over Florida for the 3rd spot in the Atlantic. The Panthers do have a game in hand and the RW tie-breaker though
?No practice on Monday means no word on any potential line changes so the projected line-up is from Sunday's game

PIT
?Jarry (19-8-1, 2.14 GAA, .930 Sv%) will likely start for the Pens
?Pittsburgh is just one point behind the Capitals for first in the Metro division and they also have 2 games in hand. Here's hoping they burn one of those tonight
?Sidney Crosby has been back in the Pens' line-up for about a month now and he has 19 points in 12 games since returning from injury
?Like always Malkin picked up the slack during Crosby's absence by scoring 38 points in 26 games
?Jason Zucker has 3 points in 3 games with the Penguins since being acquired from the Wild

Injuries

?Andreas Johnsson - Knee - Injured Reserve
?Cody Ceci - Ankle - Injured Reserve
?Morgan Rielly - Foot - Injured Reserve
?Ilya Mikheyev - Wrist - Injured Reserve

?Nick Bjugstad - Abdominal - Injured Reserve
?Brian Dumoulin - Ankle - Injured Reserve

?Dominik Kahun - Concussion - Injured Reserve
?Jake Guentzel - Shoulder - Out for season

Both James Reimer and Jonathan Bernier have a better save percentage than Andersen this year. It's been a rough year.

Unless Marchment runs over like 4 guys tonight I think the team would be better off bringing Brooks back up to play 4C. It would let us play Engvall-Spezza-Kapanen as our 3rd line, with Clifford-Brooks-Korshkov/Timashov at the 4th line.

I think that's probably our best option for the 3rd line right now with the injuries to Mikheyev and Johnsson. Clifford shouldn't be playing 3LW.

Yikes.  November Freddie needs to make a return appearance for the rest of the year.

His save percentage since December 1st is .895 now. That's still better than Fleury, Dubnyk, Binnington, Jones, Howard, and Holtby in that span though. Goalies are so, so weird.

Yeah, this team couldn't use an upgrade at 3C though I was told...

I'm kind of not understanding why Timothy was pulled out of the lineup.  Maybe the advanced stats say otherwise but I liked the way he was playing.

Could just be a case of trying something new, and giving Liljegren the opportunity to see the game from a different perspective. Not sure there's a ton of benefit in it, but, I also wouldn't necessarily read anything into it, either. The team's played poorly, and changes are clearly required.

And on a team where we are getting no secondary scoring, having Gauthier playing at all, let alone on the 3rd line........

He's only averaging 9:50 a team at 5-on-5 in the 6 games since his call-up. His CF% is 46.15 and xGF% is 38.89. He's also playing very sheltered (and as I said limited) minutes. I wouldn't exactly read a ton into those numbers right now, especially the xGF, because of the limited sample. But still the limited and sheltered minutes make it clear Keefe doesn't exactly have a ton of trust in him right now. Just for comparison's sake in the 6 games before his injury Ceci was playing 16:28 a game.

The other issue here could be how PK minutes have been doled out since Ceci's injury:

Holl 3:41
Muzzin 3:20
Dermott 1:46
Sandin 0:44
Liljegren 0:36
Barrie 0:15

Swapping Marincin, who can play 2+ minutes on the PK, for Liljegren will help relieve the top pairing of some minutes and take that responsibility off of Sandin.

As I explained above I think there's a very reasonable argument for having Marincin in the line-up over Liljegren. I got nothing for this though.

This makes some sense.  I don't agree with it, though, and I'm no Marty-hater.  This is the year to let 37/38 play in meaningful games and let them make mistakes and learn from them.

That Bernier number is pretty damn impressive when you consider the team he's on. Look no further then Howard's stats for a direct comparison
