Leafs sign Calle J?rnkrok 4-yrs 2.1M AAV

Oh, I like this. Jarnkrok was definitely someone I had my eye on as a back-up to dylan whatever.

And that feels like a solid price. Might be a year longer than I'd prefer to a soon to be 31 year old but the low AAV should make that easy enough to move if need be.

Versatile 3C, might be a Swedish connection with Nylander there. Also the first sign that the Leafs might be looking to push Kampf to 4C.

And also might be the end of the Kerfoot era, as J?rnkrok is a utility centre/winger that can actually score and defend

How much time has he spent at centre? I always pictured him more as a winger.

Hard to tell at a quick glance but he took over 500 faceoffs between Seattle and Calgary last year. Half the number K?mpf drew and like 5 times the amount Kerfoot took.

So I wonder, instead of Kampf to 4C, what about Kampf to 2C between Tavares and Nylander?

I'll be honest, I liked what I saw from him last year.

He bounced around a lot in Seattle's line-up but definitely played centre at times. Calgary used him almost entirely at the 3C spot it seems once they traded for him.

Can we pull off Sandin + Engvall for roughly 3M combined?  If we can do that and trade Holl for nothing we could in theory go with a very tight cap number.  Could demote Simmonds/Gaudette and run with 12 forwards instead to have a league minimum 7th D instead without trading Kerfoot.  If we did this we would have about 300K wiggle room on the cap ceiling.

Matthews-Bunting-Marner
Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander
Engvall (1,500,000)-Jarnkrok-Robertson
Gaudette-Kampf-Aube-Kubel
Simmonds/Malgin

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Sandin (1,600,000)
Liljegren-Giordano

Personally I would rather see Dubas take Simmonds out to pasture.  I don't really see what he brings at this point.  His play has been really uninspiring and the 4-5 fights he might have in a season really don't justify a routine lineup spot.  I would have rather seen Spezza signed for another year over Simmonds although I understand why he retired.

Well, this an interesting one. Good value, for sure, but definitely signals something else is in the hopper.

They're got about $3.9mil in cap space with 9 NHL forwards, 6 NHL D, and 2 goalies. Add two of Gaudette/Malgin/Anderson to get to 11 forwards and there's about $2.4mil to sign Engvall and Sandin. That's with guys like Simmonds, Clifford, Benn, and Mete all on the Marlies. So yeah, somethings gotta give now.

Actually don't care if Engvall walks. Didn't care for him for most of the season and then he seemed to step it up, used his size more and benefitted from it. Come playoff time his true colours came out. Disappeared. Not a huge loss in my opinion if not resigned. Simmonds can go to.

Give me Jarnkork at this price than two of the million dollar players typically brought in. Don't mind this at all.I

Okay, I thought J?rnkrok would make Kerfoot obsolete, but turns out Keefe is a fan of I Think You Should Leave

Engvall is the third, but Holmberg is on pace to make it 4.

Sorry, what are you driving at? That Keefe seems to be signaling he wants to move on from Kerfoot?

I think Keefe wanted to keep Kerfoot and have even more Kerfoots throughout the lineup. Triples make it safe. Triples is best. Plug and play forwards who can and will play anywhere without drama.
